Have we considered a FAQ section for newer members ?

I dont recall the discussion if we did. I have however noticed a recent influx of basic questions being asked. I typically respond that the search function is you "friend" but I think and FAQ would be much more user and lurker friendly.

some potential topics could be.....

Golf cart rental, drop off times, suggested ressies etc
campfire program times and time changes, as well as CM's
site explanations such as preferred, non prefer, etc

I know there are several excellent sites with detailed info but for the sake of discussion here it would be nice to have some basics outlined.

Maybe one of us can each take a search and post it here? Here, I will start...
Directions to mickey lamp post....

Parts:

1-12 inch and 2 -6 inch plastic globes. (I'm sure glass would work, we just happened to find plastic ones.)

clear silicone

3 inch PVC schedule 40 pipe (cut to your preferred height) We could only buy in 10 foot stick

2 4x3 reduces (PVC)

1 light socket

1 plug ( for bottom of post for extension cord)

1- 2 x 2 inch pipe coupling ( for Light Socket)

1- 2 X 21/2 in pvc pipe adapter (to hold pipe coupling. the bottom was hexagon shaped and was made to fit tighter with duct-tape)

12-2 electric wire ( or an old Extension cord would work)

Krylon black PVC spray paint

Globes, small holes were cut in the large globe where 6 inch globes were siliconed on. Did this to let more light shine into "ears'.

then silicone one 4x3 reducer(larger end) to bottom of the head. Paint it first.

light socket was put in 2 1/2 inch pvc coupler and the coupling inserted into the pipe adapter .this was made to fit in the top of the pole with a little duct tape around the top to make a tighter fit.

Electric cord was connected to socket and run down pole to the connector at the bottom of the pole. A hole was drilled to fit the bottom connector.

other reducer was connected to the bottom, large side down. DH drilled small holes around the bottom and used tent stakes to connect it to the ground. the reducer connected to the head fits right over the top of the pole and is left unglued so we can take it on and off to put the bulb in. it is a tight fit and keeps it weather proof.

I got this from this thread search...

The towels that Disney provides will look and smell just like the ones at your house, just be sure and bring them with you.

AND the light switches are generally on the walls (at least thats where we put them here up North)

Maybe you shoulda slept in today Dad :lmao:

I know, i'm guilty of the sarcastic response to the oft repeated question..... it just baffles me, that if you have 30 seconds to write a question, why not take 10 and search using it. I use the search all the time....

ok, off my soapbox and on to more sarcasm........:rolleyes1

I have been told that I too have a sardonic wit.
I agree on the search function being underutilized, thats why I brought up the idea. I dont like to reply "use the search function" since that sets the tone for the persons time here on the camping boards, my thought is to avoid that altogether.

Stop by my site during Christmas at the Fort and I will pour you a beer out of my recently completed pipeline to Tampa.... :lmao:

Search function, there is a search function. :confused3 Until someone mentioned it, I did not know it existed. Maybe put its existence in a sticky.:teacher:

Ok, this was a great idea.....but it's already gone off the deep end. :rotfl2:

I'll start a FAQ thread and stick it to the top. Feel free to post a question, and an answer to the most frequently (serious) asked questions we get here on the Camping board!

Just a warning though....let's keep it serious for those who are really looking for answers. I will try to keep up with it, and delete the posts that are not on-topic. :)

Thanks for the idea!!

In all seriousness I will be seriously serious.

Thanks Rhonda

Wow! I asked for one of these awhile back and it got shot down because some people on this board thought it would be "too redundant". I think it's a great idea.:thumbsup2

I'll show you how seriouse I'll be, I won't even post there.... this way, the sarcastic tongue stays in my mouf

That was me and I still feel that way. Let's see - on some other forums there are literally thousands of responses on these faq threads. So to find the answer to your question, you will have to post it again or use the search function. And that is why I feel it's redundant.

And the second response on the faq thread includes instructions on using the search function. Still think it's not redundant?

Yep, that was me. I'm with bigdisneydaddy in recommending the search function to anyone and everyone. I put that suggestion on the faq thread specifically because it was only the second post and I'm hoping that LOTS of people will see that suggestion. Usually when someone suggests using the search feature it's only seen by a few people. Still being a "newbie" myself it has been really helpful, and has kept me from asking (or being tempted to ask) those "general questions" as much as possible. I know those questions can get a little tiresome after awhile to those who frequent the boards.

ftwildernessguy, I completely agree that the faq threads on some of the other forums are not really user friendly at this point because they have so much chatter back and forth, getting off the topic, etc, etc, etc. And I know that to make this thread work it will take 1) a purposeful effort among DISers to keep it on topic and 2) Rhonda having the ability to stay on top of it and delete the unnecessary stuff. (The success of #2, of course, will be greatly affected by the success of #1) By the way, thank you Rhonda for all you do!

So is it gonna work? I don't know, time will tell. I think it's a great idea though, so my fingers are crossed.

Rhonda, do you think that putting something to that effect in your original post/sticky would help remind people to keep it on topic?
