Frequent Virgin room upgradges.

We are always being told by the Virgin Travelstore to flash our Frequent Virgin club card at hotel check in to see if they will upgrade us.

Has anyone actually been succesful doing this ?

The reason I ask is I remember a while back someone did this at the Rosen Centre (my hotel this year) and were upgraded free of charge to a suite (which had it's own lounge area).

I think this happened out of season (is there such a thing at WDW) but we are going in June. Should I try ? I mean if you don't ask you don't get in this world, right ?

BTW We paid off the remaining balance on our holiday on Friday, 10 weeks to go now. Can't wait !!!!

As far as I am aware Disney Hotels don't participate in this. We have used our Frequent Virgin membership to get upgrades in regular hotels in California but this was done through Virgin before travel, however we were never upgraded to a suite! But we did get things like a sea view but were always told it was on availability only.

I can't comment on Orlando, but last time I went to Miami (last June), we stayed at The Monaco, and we flashed our FV card, and they upgraded us to a beachside room with it's own patio and efficiency - a truly lovely room with a front door a back door and it's own patio that was right on the beach.

We had booked for a standard room.

It does work!

We stayed at the Portofino at Universal a couple of years ago. We had booked a standard room but were upgraded to a water view which was lovely. This was at Easter, but we did have to mention the perk when we were checking in - I don't remember showing the FV card but it wouldn't do any harm to have it handy. I think they do say upgrades are subject to availability but if we got one at such a busy time of year, you stand a good chance!!
