French Quater or Riverside

Did you guys swim in January? My sister in law is from Iowa, so she'll probably think it's warm enough to swim, she's already been asking if the pools are heated. I told her they were, but the air around them is not, lol :cold:

We've swam at all times of year at WDW. The pools are heated. In fact, last Feb we were at POP and the night time temps went down to 30's that weekend. We swam late at night. The pool felt like a bath tub. Although, the outside air was frigid.

I've stayed at both and enjoyed them both -- but there's soemthing about the FQ that I just love....it's so charming and pretty and feels smaller. The pool slide is so cute for the kids! And I believe the transportation is better.

That said, we're booked for POR, because we are a family of five, and it's the only mod that will accomodate 5. I couldn't help but notice your user name along with your post. If you are a family of five, you'll need to choose POR -- unless 1 or more of you kids is under 3 or you are booking 2 rooms, or you are leaving someone behind....

Just wanted to throw that out there for you to consider. Anyhow, both are enjoyable, but if I had my complete choice, I'd probably choose the FQ.

Hope that helps!

Ok, I just saw in your signature that one wee one is under 3 so your good to go. I'd choose the FQ. In a few years you won't have the choise, you'll be relegated to POR -- so I'd try the FQ while you have the chance. Enjoy!

Hi SnoWhiteRabbit's son!

My dd loves the smileys too. Her favorite is :cool1: .

Thanks for the info, thats good to know for future trips. On this trip. My mom will be with us so we'll have 2 rooms. Are the rooms at POR configured differently than all the others or do they just let 5 squeeze in? We do have 1 under 3 now, but probably by the next we go(although I hope to be a DVC member by then who knows) she'll be over 3. Is there like a pull out couch or something?

We prefer POFQ. This size of the resort is small and everything is within a 5 minute walk from any room. It only has one bus stop and is picked up before POR. There were many times on our trip in Nov 2004 that we never even went to POR. We were picked up and went right to the park. POR is more spread out and has 4 bus stops. POFQ is also dropped of first when returning from the parks. These things really made the decision for us.
The pool is wonderful as well. Even though there is only one pool compared to the 4 at POR, it was fine. My DD's were 8 & 11 at the time and they enjoyed it & it was never too crowded. Also, POFQ only has a foodcourt as opposed to a full sit down restuarant. This was not an issue for us - we just hopped on a bus and went to Boatwrights at POR for breakfast one morning.
We just loved the quietness of the resort after the parks. Sometimes it felt like we were the only ones there! Our family highly recommends POFQ  !! Have fun and let us know your final decision ;)

I've stayed in the Aligator Bayou at POR and at the FQ. Both are nice, but I very much prefer the FQ. Something about the fun atmosphere. The rooms seemed nicer, the space more compact (=shorter walks) and the cast more friendly.

I really like Riverside! But both are nice hotels and you can pool hope between them!!

Since you are a party of 5, you will really need to be in Alligator Bayou at Riverside. They accommodate 5,whereas all the rooms at FQ are either a king or 2 doubles. Riverside is a great resort, good food court and Boatwright's Restaurant, several quiet pools and the main Old Man Island. You are welcomed to use the facilities at FQ as well since we are sister resorts. Whichever you choose, you will enjoy! ::MickeyMo

Forgot about Christmas decorations : Both resorts are decorated, with Riverside having a large beautiful tree in the rotunda and the front desk area all trimmed with garland, etc. At French Quarter there is also a tree, and the palm trees outside in Jackson Square are decorated as well as the balconies in Jackson Square. Both resorts look real pretty at Christmas ::MickeyMo

Sorry for the confusion - if one of your children is under 3, and you can use a porta-crib, then it doesn't matter which side you stay at. The accommodation for 5 at POR is 2 double beds with a trundle bed for the smallest child. Good Luck - again, either one is great! ::MickeyMo

Actually, since my mother is coming with us, we booked 2 rooms at FQ. We're doing the Disney Cruise so we have 2 rooms on the ship and FQ. It's better for us to have 2 rooms, with 2 bathrooms to get ready in. Thanks for your replies. If we like Port Orleans, in the furture we will do Riverside. Thanks again
