French Quarter or AKL

I've never stayed at POFQ but may try it next time. We did just come back from AKL and loved it. It was just a completely unique experience and atmosphere. We loved the amazing pool area with water slide too, which may be nice in the summer. We thought the bus service was fine. We never waited long and found the rides to go quickly. I think magic kingdom was 20 minutes. We loved Boma and Mara was good too. We liked the Mara setup of ordering and paying and getting a buzzer to go up and get our food when it was ready. It gave our family a chance to get settled at our table. It sounds like two great choices for you and you can't go wrong either way.

I agree! We've never stayed at POFQ, but we love AKL. AKL is amazing and we love it for all of the reasons stated here :wizard:.

My last two stays were at POFQ and AKL. We really loved POFQ and I was skeptical about staying somewhere else because we loved it that much. But my boys really wanted to try out AKL, so we stayed there last June and LOVED it. It was so unique, we enjoyed Mara, the pool was great, and we had zero issues with buses. In fact, I was surprised how quickly we got to MK on our first night because I had heard so many negative stories. You can't go wrong either way, but given the choice, I'd choose AKL. Sadly, we are a family of 5, so we can't stay at either again unless we get 2 rooms, I take my boys without DH or my mom (always a possibility), or we get a 2 bedroom villa at AKL (pricey).

We have stayed at AKL twice and visit every trip to eat at Boma and we have never had a problem with the buses, either. The resort is out away from everything, but we found the buses to be fine. We didn't find it to take more than maybe 5 extra minutes to get to the parks compared to other resorts. Also, since the buses only service AKL and Kidani, there's no sharing with any other resort(s) :).

I have stayed at both AKL and POFQ (and am staying POFQ this summer with extended family). We enjoyed both resorts. The pool is better at AKL, and Boma is fantastic. Taking the boat from POFQ to DTD is very convenient, and the resort is a great compact size.

If price didn't matter, for me the choice would depend on how I was planning to spend my WDW time. If we were aiming for downtime at the resort, or looking forward to some relaxing pool time, I'd go with AKL. If we would be visiting Disney Springs, I'd go with POFQ.

You can't go wrong with either one :smickey:

I know, it's deluxe vs moderate.
We just love deluxe but most are way too expensive. However, we got a deal. AKL isn't bad given it is deluxe but French Quarter is just so cheap. We have read iffy things about POFQ rooms having paper thin walls and creeky mattresses. AKL seems a bit far from the parks as we have read iffy things about their bus system. Besides these things, both seem nice (both are new to us). We are staying late June through July 5th if that helps. As I've said, ignore price because we have a deal whether we go deluxe or mod. Just give me opinions and tidbits...thanks!
AKL anyday over POFQ. But, its an easy choice if you were comparing AKL to PORiverside. I would always pick Riverside in that case. I just can't stand the creepy, tacky Mardi Gras theming at POFQ. A perfect scenario for a trip I would plan is a stay at POR.... Then, on a non park day, catch an AKL bus from Disney Springs and spend a few hours visiting the artful lobby, animal viewing areas, and having dinner at Boma. When your bus takes you back over to Disney Springs, end your evening with a leisurely boat ride back to beautiful, charming POR.
