French Quarter Hotels

We're looking to go to New Orleans in April and our favorite hotel, the Royal Sonesta, is booked. We're thinking of possibly staying at Chateau Bourbon, but were looking at maybe being more central in the FQ. Wondering if anyone had some suggestions. The Omni was another one I have been wanting to stay at, but the room category we want is booked. The Bourban Orleans seems like a great location, but is getting bad reviews on trip advisor.

I know there have been several threads on this subject, but search is not working now.

The Monteleone is my favorite place to stay. It has major charm and history. A room on the 8th or 9th floor on the Bienville side is very nice.

Even if you don't stay there go have a drink at the famous Carousel Piano Bar.

The Monteleone is nice and is a good location on Royale street but my MOST favorite is the Place D'Armes. Fantastic location on St. Ann street right off Jackson Square. It is a boutique hotel with tons of character and old world New Orleans feel. Check out the forums on Tripadvisor for lots of discussion on NO hotels. You'll get good advise from locals and tourists alike.

I like the price and location of Place D'Armes. Although only a junior suite is available or interior room. I really have no clue what is going on that Saturday night that all these rooms are booking up.

I've only ever stayed at the Monteleone, so I have nothing else to compare it to, I'm sure that there are many other lovely hotels to stay at. The location is wonderful and like JessicaR said, it is charming and historical.
Would love to hear where you choose and how you like it when you return!

Well I booked the Place D'Armes but DH is not confident about it. I booked a Jr. Suite, but there is a possibility the room won't have a window. They added exterior in the request. But now I bet DH will want to go elsewhere.

I stayed at the Place D'Arms a few yeras ago and we loved it. Close to everything, beautiful courtyard.

Another vote for Place d'Armes. My sister and I stayed there last summer. We sat up on our balcony at night listening to the street musicians in Jackson Square.

DH and I stayed at the Bourbon Orleans last February, and we really liked it! The rooms are small, but clean and very nicely appointed. I had seen the same bad reviews as well, and was a bit worried, but we thought it was a very nice hotel. The location can't be beat.
In October, we stayed at the Hotel Provincial, and really liked that one as well. The rooms seem a bit older, and filled with antique furniture, but still nice and clean. Our room opened up onto the courtyard, which was really pretty, and we really liked the feel of the place. It's in a good location as well, about a block away from Jackson Square.
Have fun! I am dying to get back to New Orleans!!!!!

Turns out a couple of my friends will be staying at the Place D'Armes at the same time. lol.

Now we have to figure out what touristy tour to do. Haunted? Swamp? Plantation?

We usually just visit with family and stroll around. But MIL wants to do something touristy with us.

April? French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest and a huge political convention. Lots of conventions in April as the weather is just great.

It's the weekend before Jazz Fest. It just seemed odd to me that the Royal Sonesta was completely booked that weekend. I guess it's good news. New Orleans is back.

The French Quarter Fest is April 9 - 11. If you are here for that, how fortunate! Amazing festival (and it's free!!) & good food. It's where the locals go!

I don't want to take over your thread but as it is kind of related I was wondering if any New Orleans dissers could give me some good ideas about what to do in the area over Easter, including where to eat on Easter.

Dauphine Orleans
W New Orleans French Quarter

All really great hotels here in New Orleans. My family has stayed at all 3 over the years and they are beautiful.

We stayed at the Drury Inn when we visited New Orleans but I can't remember if it was actually in the French Quarter. We walked to Bourbon Street, no problem, tho. It was a great hotel with the pool being on the roof.

I've stayed at the Maison Dupuy, it was very nice and a very short walk to Bourbon Street.
