We built our home one year ago. It is a home/office. We have two sets of French doors on either ends of the OFFICE. One set leads into the office from the front hall and other set leads into the main house from the back of the office.

I have 30 little panes of windows x2 (sides) x2 sets = A PANE IN THE NECK!!! :lmao:

Any DISer's have French doors and do you have a quicker way of washing each little tiny pane of window......... :guilty:

I love the doors and are happy eveyday we have them, they are so pretty BUT sheeshhhhhhhh.........cleaning them is a PANE (pain :lmao: )!!!

Not to mention, I have them all around my FRONT DOOR TO THE HOUSE...and so many clients STICK THEIR FACES in those little windows to see if we are here and answering the door....ugh.... :guilty:

Anyway, I always take my cleaning questions to the DIS and always get great answers. :teeth:

THANK YOU AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! :dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

My solution was replacing them. Sorry no help. I had 6 sets in and around my house along with side windows on 3 of the sets. What a pain (pane.... :rotfl:--you made me laugh )!! I finally replaced them with the solid glass ones. They don't look as nice, but honestly I could never keep the others clean so these are better. I am down to only 1 left. May replace it also.

I have the same set of office doors. 30 panes total and yes, I clean them individually and it stinks.

i feel your pane....er pain. we have four sets or 120 panes. i dothem when something interesting is on tv that i just want to listen to. i use 100% cotton napkins that i got from the clean team. no lint.

OKAY, you all have said there is no easy and sure fire way of getting this task done.... :guilty:

Thanks for the posts!!! :goodvibes

ONE AT A TIME............. :sad2:

UPDATE: Family is here visiting for the Holiday and we have decided I should put like those single panel curtains on the French Doors......OKAY...fine that will so cut down on having to worry about finger prints on the glass etc etc....BUT my latest dilemma is which side do I put the curtains or on both sides of the doors..... :confused3

As I mentioned in the first post the doors are INSIDE my home for our office...opting for putting curtains on ONE side...which side... :confused3 Should I put them on the side of the doors that are IN the office... :confused3 ...or the outer side of the doors.....one side would be the front hall and the back doors open into the main house which is essentially the kitchen.... :confused3

THANKS for the replies...hope this is not to confusing but as I sit here contemplating curtains which SIDE or BOTH sides... :confused3

ETA: Or should I just leave the French Doors alone and continue to clean them? They really are so pretty despite the maintenance!!!

Take out all the panes of glass, leave the frames.

It'll *look* like you have the cleanest french doors ever! Not much on privacy, though - not like french doors are, anyway.

I can't do that with the OFFICE! To many people constantly coming bye and they have their meetings with DH and we are able to close off the doors and they have their privacy and the rest of the family does not bother them or visa versa....(like at lunch or dinner time). When a client is not at the house talking to DH, he is always on the phone speaking to clients or different town boards and I love when I can SHUT THOSE DOORS!

So for now the PAINS ( :lmao: ) aka panes of glass are staying!!!

forget the curtains, the woodwork is toonice to cover up. it doesn't tqke that long to cleaqn them.

I have them going into a bedroom here. I have curtians on the inside, each door has a rod and the curtains can slide opened or closed, I close them when need be and close the doors. This way you can see the woodwork from the outside just fine. No problem with prints or anything. :) The best way to clean windows is newspaper, no streaks!! Works great for me.

If you get a squeegie small enough to fit the pane's that should make it easy enough to clean.

They sell french door curtains. A single thin rod, goes on the top of the door and a single thin rod goes on the bottom. THey also have them with a piece of material that goes in the middle to give the curtain more of a formal look. That will solve your problem without covering any wood trim and you won't see any fingerprints.

I would put the french door curtains on the side of both doors that are facing inside the main house.

Sorry - that was a joke - albeit a poor one.

Here's a real idea, though...

How about "frosted" contact paper? Cut them out to fit the windows. No need to clean, and they're opaque, so you've got privacy.

don't they make french doors with the panes in the glass. I have sliders with panes but they are in the glass so smooth cleaning just one big door. I would think they have the same for french doors.
