Freezing meat & bread

I know my mother would come home from the store and re-wrap meat in freezer paper and put it in the freezer.

Maybe I'm lazy, but I just put the meat in its original package into a freezer ziploc bag. When I use the meat, I save the freezer bag in the freezer for the next package of meat, unless it doesn't look clean. I never use the meat bag for any other food. The bag is marked for meat only.

If I buy meat from the service meat counter at my store and I tell them it's for the freezer they will wrap it in freezer paper for me.

I leave bread in its original packaging in the freezer.

If it is buns from the deli, I put the bag into a ziploc freezer bag first because I have had the deli bag become brittle in the freezer and crumble.

I buy my meat in bulk and divide it in freezer ziplock bags. Loaves of bread, I just freeze as is. Any rolls or bagels I put in freezer bags

A friend told me that her elderly father was eating meat out of the freezer that was 5 years old. She checked with his doctor who said that the meat is safe to eat after being frozen for any length of time. It might be dried out and not taste great, but it is safe to eat! :confused3

Freezing in the original package will lead to drying out because that packaging is not sealed, just wrapped.

I wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap, and then put it in a freezer bag.

My grandfather froze fish in milk. Kept it fresh and removed the fishy smell.

I just throw bread in the package straight in the freezer. As for meat, if I buy in bulk then I divide it and use my vaccum sealer. If I buy regular size (for one meal), I just throw it straight in the freezer.

I freeze bread that I know we are going to eat within a week or two in the original packaging. If I know it will be in there longer I will put it in freezer bags just to prevent freezer burn. The same goes for meat.
