Wow. I never knew this! Thaks for posting this thread!! m a freeze-a-holic but never thought about freezing cheese.
It's official, you are my HERO!! Talk about a great score!
Just curious, what if anything did the checker say??

I got the tip about the 12 cents/bag cheese from a friend.
I PMd a few budget board folks that I saw lived in Cicagoland so they could get in on it. All of them went and took advantage of the deal.
Checker was bored by it all.
Most surprising reaction to me was the friend I saw at the store when I was shopping. I told her about the bargain she could get and she said "Oh, I really don't need cheese right now."
To the uber-frugal that answer is beyond understanding.
Maybe she didn't know you can freeze cheese???

I just bought 10 packages of shredded cheese because it was on sale, but it doesn't expire until October. I guess I don't see why you would need to freeze it, because I can certainly use all 10 packages in 4 months.![]()

I'm really surprised that people DON'T already freeze cheese (and butter). Thought everyone did, LOL!
I do not freeze good cheese - just the cheap stuff like American cheese slices, cheddar, shredded, etc. We've always bought the huge bag of shredded Mild Cheddar at Costco and freeze it in gallon freezer bags. We use a lot of cheese but with only 2 of us, we can't eat that much before it goes bad.
Be careful with the blocks of cheese. I find that they are crumble very easy after freezing when you go to slice them. We do freeze shredded, crumbled, or cubed cheese (or those small singles) but we don't freeze the big blocks anymore because we usually use them for slicing (as opposed to shredding).
Yes but after you open it and use it and have some left you only have less than a week to use it before it goes bad.
