Freedom to Marry Day Protest Planned

What a sad world we live in that the religious belief system of some can control the lives of others.

Marriage is between two consenting adults who love each other.

ETA: Thankfully, such closed minded, intentionally biased beliefs are slowly but surely being shunned and gay marriage/civil unions are going to happen whether you like it or not.

Your mind is equally closed and biased to your view.

Everyone's belief system can be called a "religion". We all have a say in the rules of society which control our lives. Certain things may not happen whether you like it or not.

Well stated, and here's hoping it's sooner rather than later!

There are other places where the majority religion controls the government. Feel free to move there... please. :)

We should I leave the greatest country in the world?
I'll stay and influence it for the better and speak out against false "progress."

The Church doesn't have to say anything. We, the people, who are against such blatant immorality can say so through our voting, public outcry, and anything else to legally influence the laws of society that we and our children live in.

Thanks for stating the my 16+ year monogomous committed consensual relationship is blatantly immoral. Anything else you'd like to add there buddy? Does my life SO insense you? Isn't there anything else you'd like to say or are you doing your best to not be 100% insulting but only 99%?

Equality in marriage is coming. In the meantime, I'll pray for you that your hatred doesn't continue to blind you.

Your mind is equally closed and biased to your view..

You are entirely correct. I do not and will never tolerate intolerance and bigotry. I most definitely see the double standard and I embrace it. In fact, I'm thinking of putting it on a t-shirt.

The above post once again highlights why we would be so much better off if California would just fall off into the ocean!!:thumbsup2

Much better that 36 million people drown than people protest not being able to marry.

Just out of curiosity. How many other countries have you lived in? How many have you visited?

While I can understand the clerk's sentiments, I don't agree with what she is doing (handing out the certificates). Regardless of the fact that she is paying for the certs, handing them out while acting in her position as clerk carries with it the implication that this is the official policy of the city.

I thought it was the city's policy. Wasn't California prevented from approving same sex marriage by the federal gvt?

Carry on and we in the Uk will have the money spent by people like Elton John back into our economy when he married.

Stating the obvious isn't judging.

Saying to someone they have blond hair when they do is stating the obvious.

Saying to someone that they have a limp when they do is stating the obvious.

Saying someone (or in this case a entire state of people) is immoral is a judgement.

If you're going to live by the Bible, live by it.

You are intolerant to those who disagree with you and call them and/or imply that they are bigoted, haters, and homophobes (fake word alert).

There are a great many things that are legal and immoral. Porn is legal and immoral. Many faiths believe that alcohol is immoral, yet it is legal. Many faiths believe that short skirts on women are immoral, yet they are legal.

There are a lot of legal things that I don't do because my faith says they are immoral. However, I don't want to make them illegal, that takes away free choice. I wouldn't feel like I was making that much of an effort for God by giving up something I wasn't legally permitted to do anyway.

Of course he/we can be intolerant to your disagreeing viewpoint seeing as you are the one vehemently trying to impose your own stance that does nothing to benefit you - only to hurt others. I'd say you're pretty bigoted, hating and homophobic too.

It isn't the city's policy to hand out a certificate that says "I issue this Certificate of Inequality to you because your choice of marriage partner displeases some people whose displeasure is, apparently, more important than principles of equality."

That is the personal policy of the clerk in question, not the city. But by handing it out as part of her official duties, i.e., denying the marriage application, I can see where people would view the certificate as being part of official city policy.
