Currently have a reservation for room 6202, which is a large ocean view room in the very front of the ship on deck 6. Will be first RCL cruise. 2 adults and 2 small children (will be ages 2 and 5). I am reading online that you need to close the shades in the evening for this particular room so the light from the room doesn't disturb the bridge. Anyone know more about that? The lady I made the reservation with at RCL had not heard of it. Also, does anyone know if there is a lot of movement in that forward location?

Would I be better moving rooms? There is a midship 2nd deck regular ocean view room that is port side, although it is smaller. I could also save a little bit of money and get a $100 credit if I move rooms.

I appreciate anyone's thoughts/suggestions!

I can't really comment too much on the room. But I wanted to say I was on Freedom in February (did the Western Caribbean) and I loved the ship! My favorite ship so far. Your family will have a wonderful time.

Personally I'd switch rooms. I like being on the side of the ship. That way you could (hopefully) see more when you are in port. Depending on how the ship pulls in, it might back in, so you might just see ocean (which may be fine) in your current location.

With 4 people, I'd stay with the largest room I could afford. Cruise staterooms aren't large to start with, so why go to something smaller (unless you go to two connecting rooms)?

I have heard about some rooms being requested to have curtains closed at night, but I don't know if that's one of them.

In theory, the front and aft is where you'd feel the most movement. But the ships are so large, unless the seas are rough, I think you'd be fine.

My inlaws had a front room on Oasis and I had heard the same thing, but they didn't have to close the blinds. I'm not sure if freedom is the same, but the room on oasis was huge as there was additional space under the window slant that did not count as room square footage- perfect place for my neicev to play- awesome room!!

We just got back from our freedom cruise and we were in 7200 and there was a sign to close the shades to reduce disturbance to the bridge at night. That being said we never got yelled at about it and we just tried to keep it closed at night but I had an almost 2 yr old who would open them sometimes. I think u have a family oview room like we did and it was great very spacious but you can feel motion and we had very calm seas. Midship would get you less motion. My older kids were fine but my 2 yo got seasick and we had to start giving him meds.
