I was told that if you work for simply 40 hours, in WDW or DL, you get admission to the parks and all CM discounts for the year. Is this true?

To an extent, yes.

The base requirements for Florida-Site Casual Temporary (Seasonal) Cast Members is 40 hours per year.

However, individual areas, as well as Florida-Site Casting Services does reserve the right to impose additional availability requirements as dictated by labor needs.
