Are there any free websites to do word and excel.

If you have an MSN account, you should be able to use word there.

Do you have any discounts through your employer? Where I used to work we were able to get the Microsoft Home Use.. Basically it was Mucrosoft Office at a super steep discount.

But check MSN.

There are places you can do work processing and spreadsheets, though they won't be exactly like Word and Excel. I like Google's option for online - Google Drive is the name.

Google drive has Google sheets that does okay and is their equivalent of excel. It also has Google doc which is similar to word. Google sheets can also be exported as an excel file I believe. I use it almost every day at work.

Another vote for Open Office. I used google docs and microsoft office online at work. Features can be limited and at one point you may want to save an actual file rather than have it floating around online.

If you are used to Microsoft Office, Open Office is easy to pick up. I need an office type program at home once a month so there was no need to buy Microsoft Office and Open Office is perfect, I have even used the word feature to make basic tags/labels for events I had in the last year.

Openoffice works fine. If you need an email software the Firebird people make Thunderbird and it is free. I never pay for software because there is usually a good free and safe alternative. The trick is googling until you find the answer.....or posting the question on a forum such as this.

Yea, the only way to use Microsoft Excel and Word online for free is use the browser-based online version through a free Outlook (formerly Hotmail) account. Otherwise, either Open Office or Google Drive are good. And there are many free and easy to understand guides online so you can learn to use them quickly. I prefer Google Drive as I have Google devices, and am a Google fangirl. Been using their apps and programs for years and love them.

I use open office at home. It is missing some of the functions of MS Office but it is also FREE.

I'm also putting in a vote for Open Office. I did use Google Docs at a former job and it did everything we needed though not exactly the same as excel.

Wow, who knew... Thanks once again DISboards for making life a bit easier! Perfect timing for this question and Answers!

And what is the difference between the two versions?

i use libre office at times and found it alot better, i read somewhere that alot of the original engineers that designed open office moved off and developed libre office so open office is the older/less featured version...this could just be internet chatter from somewhere, tbh google docs, libre office and open office all work fine and are 100% free
