FREE water bottle at Disney Stores...

...today for Earth Day if you bring in 3 empty plastic bottles for recycling.

Has anyone else done this yet? My 3 each brought in 3 empty bottles so they each got a plastic Disney water bottle, but it is made with #7 plastic! The number #7 is often used for polycarbonate, which is made with bisphenol-A (potentially not good), but it can also be used for other types of plastic.

I asked the Disney Store employee about it and she said that they got some literature about the bottles saying they were BPA-free. When she looked for it, she couldn't find it. If anyone else goes to get the bottles, would you be willing to ask exactly what kind of plastic the bottles are made out of?

I wish we had a store closer. I don't care about the water bottle, but DisneyShopping.com has some super-cute stuff linked in their Earth Day e-mail and I would love to see if it is available in store. I hate paying shipping!

Funny, I posted about this exact topic in the Canadian section this afternoon...

Essentially, the #7 is a big turn off for me. Yes, I VERY much appreciate the freebie - but the lack of a BPA Free sticker or logo makes me wonder about the safety. When I asked at my store, the girl was all "Oh yes, BPA free for sure cause it's made in the USA". I then pointed out the bottle is actually marked "Made in China", and I just got a shrug in return. So... who knows.

For now, ours have been shelved - but not without great tears this afternoon. I'm hoping to write an email to Disney Store Customer Service tonight, to see if they have an official answer. If anyone gets an email in and receives a reply, please post!!
