Free View Upgrades?

I know that free view upgrades are few and far between (and involve a little pixie dust). But I am wondering if anyone has ever received an upgrade when checking in on-line? To me, it seems like the less involvement of a human being, the less chance of an upgrade. Any thoughts?

Got a view & preferred room upgrade at CBR - did not use the on-line check in.

Got a view upgrade at POFQ and we had used the on-line check-in (although we were there celebrating 25th anniversary which was on file...so maybe that's why).

Didn't really get an upgrade at OKW - but she did point out three available rooms on a map and let us choose which one we wanted (I picked one very close to bus stop and next to one of the "quiet" pools which to me as as good as an upgrade

At no time did I ask for one - I don't like to put CMs in a "sticky" spot.

I don't think there is less involvement of a human being, the welcome packages are made up by cm's.

Online checkin has nothing to do with your room assignment. Basically all it does is give Disney a time of arrival so they can have your welcome package and paperwork pre-arranged. Rooms are only assigned a couple of days before arrival, and can even change depending on circumstances. Upgrades are strictly pixie dust and usually have more to do with maintenance issues or overbooking of certain room types.
