I had a passholder room only + quick service dining reserved at a value resort for Mid-February.

I got an email yesterday offering me a free upgrade to a studio or 1-bedroom villa at SSR or OKW. So, naturally, I call first thing this morning... And now I'm not in a very good mood. :(

To get the 1-bedroom, I had to take SSR... not a big deal, but I was kinda looking forward to OKW. THEN she tells me that the price with the free upgrade was $800 more. I was like "HUH? I thought it was a FREE upgrade. Doesn't FREE mean $0? Then she was like "Oh, I mean $800 total." So it was $250 more? Even though I had the passholder package originally, I had to drop that and go with the regular package and buy 2-1 day tickets... I'm not sure where the other $50 went (although I haven't figured taxes out). I'm kinda confused, and feel like I got taken, somehow, even though I should be happy to have gotten my 'free' upgrade?

could she have upgraded your QS dining to reg dining?

The other $50 was probably for changing your reservations within 45 days(? or 50?) of your trip. I love it when free means something different when money is concerned:rotfl:

I probably shouldn't have called while tired...

Well, the tickets were definitely not free. So that I can understand. Although you can use them towards your AP renewal, or a later time.

I am guessing the $50 is from taxes. Could also be if you have more than 2 adults in the room. Then the additional adult charge goes from $10 pp per night to $25 pp per night.

You can look it at as going from a value to a deluxe resort, and having extra tickets to use later.

Or you could cancel and rebook back to a value, as long as that package is still available.

I'd call back and speak with another CM. You probably got one of the CM 's who does not know what they are doing.

Yeah... I realize the tickets weren't free...

Only 2 people in the room...

I'm just confused as to what, EXACTLY, that extra money was for.

Can't cancel/go back to the value... I'm at like 24 days so I'd lose the $200 cancel fee.

I guess I'll just take it as a discounted (not free) upgrade and know in the future not to be so quick to jump on something when it seems like a great deal...

That doesn't sound right.

I would call them back. I don't see why you would have to buy tickets to move resorts. You should probably also check to make sure the dining is still on your reservation.

I just checked, and I can book the 1 BR villa w/ quick-service dining as a passholder w/out having to add tickets... So now I'm even more confused. I'm gonna need to call back.

The tickets depends on the requirement of the package code.
For example say OP had booked originally package ABC, an AP ticketless Quick Serv Dine package. (Just using the package codes and descriptions for example purposes. And I do not know what type of dining exactly they have. etc.)
Due to the offer they rec'd, they instead went to package XYZ, Deluxe resort upgrade with Quick Service.
Package XYZ may require the purchase of at least a 1 day ticket per guest, where package ABC did not.
Maybe people don't agree. But if that is a package requirement, that is it.
Although you should always know how the amounts came to be.
What they will not be able to do is give you a breakdown of each cost, as no guest gets that with a package.

You would have the option to do so of course. That is a different package than the free upgrade offer you now have. You would need to follow whatever prices and policies are in that package.
You may want to see about booking that option on line just to get an idea of the cost.

Here are my thoughts...

The email offered a Free Upgrade probably because the value is either over booked or maybe they are planning to take some rooms out of the inventory.

I would call back and talk with someone else. Then if they too give you a cost for the upgrade ask to speak to guest services. Discuss the contents of the email with them.

It surly seems to me that the front line CM you talked to didn't know what he/she was doing.

Good Luck.

I called once to ask a question and got a CM who told me she had a FABULOUS deal for me -- and I would save $$ to boot. She ended up changing my whole trip after I INSISTED I did not want to (downgraded me from a suite to a regular room, gave me Deluxe dining (which I didn't want) vs. Quick Service dining). The whole thing was a nightmare. Luckily I was so confused when I hung up that I called right back and spoke to someone else who then had to rebook my original trip. It was a real PITA. So.... CALL!!

None of this sounds like a free upgrade to me, I would definitely call back and talk to someone who knows what they're doing!
