Just for those of you who are checking in between 26 Aug - 1 Sept and staying in a value Disney are currently giving free upgrades to SSR or OKW (their is thread on this on the resorts page)

Apparently this is being done due to over booking at the values.

Those who have booked direct with Disney need to check their emails just in case you have been one of the lucky ones. Even if you have not received anything it is worth contacting them as they can check if you are one of the selected people. If you have booked with a travel agent you need to contact them directly (dont think this will apply if you booked with a UK one)

We booked with Dreams and our check in date is 26 Aug so fingers crossed I will be one of the lucky ones but it seems unlikely as most of the rooms have now gone. Oh well some people have all the luck. At least I have free dining.

I spoke to Disney and they are still giving out the upgrades

I would be surprised if the values are really overbooked (I'd not be surprised if Disney is trying to promote DVC). The values ARE available at full price during that time period - not sold out.

I've heard the promotion is pretty booked at this point, it'd be interesting to see if they do it for different dates.

Either way, it's great news if you get a free upgrade. If I was booked in during those dates, though, and I didn't get one I'd be feeling pretty fed up - I think I'd rather be in blissful ignorance. :music:

That is precisely the reason why I've been avoiding the 'Resorts' board like the plague Deb - it's not that I am angry about others getting the upgrade like some DVC members are but I don't mind admitting I'm pretty green with envy ;)

As an aside, it's not that the values are overbooked, it's more that there are only a certain percentage of rooms ateach resort blocked off and available for free dining. By offering upgrades to some of those who have booked at the values already, they are able to free up more rooms to sell as anyone who hasn't booked is more likely to book at a value resort than a deluxe. I don't suppose Disney is losing anything in the long run as the rooms they are upgrading to are essentially 'unsold' anyway.

were at ssr before the free dinning at at pop when it starts.but tempted to ring as they have got our email address wrong(rang about somthing elce)not going to ask as it means a lot for DW and inlaws to stay at pop as it holds a lot of fond memories of fil who pased away late last year.Anywhay hopeing to get upgraded to castle and win the dvc points

I really think this is Disney's way of introducing more guests to DVC. I didn't get picked - I'm too late in the month anyway, but I'm glad for those who did. :) I am not sure if I'd have moved though from the Pop to a studio - I like the Pop food court too much!

I like DD very much as well - I used to stay at the Disney Institute occasionally, and the food choices at DD has gotten better since then. Still not quite as convenient as the POP, though (not as many choices in one place, though WP has a good menu). And I like the sloppy joes at the PC. :)

Apparantly folks are even getting upgraded to the one beds at the DVC resorts! There was a discussion on a DVC board elsewhere about how they should upgrade DVC members first but it doesn't work like that - if the rooms are cash available better to upgrade from a paying resort than not use them. I don't think it is a selling method because folks who like value are the least likely to go for DVC. Moderate maybe but probably not value.
