We booked another cruise for Sept 2005 for the 4 night. This time we are bringing family with us. So we booked three staterooms. We are not rich people and the amount of money we spent on the last cruise ($800 charged to the room plus who knows what in cash) was a little too much for us. So rather than do an excursion at Nassau would you guys know of how we can get to a public beach or any ideas of stuff we can do that does not cost alot of money? There will be 9 of us this time around. 3 are children that will be one 7year old and two 5 year olds.

Are there any websites that you would recommend?

My vote would be to stay on the ship and enjoy the pools to yourselves. As you only have 4 days onboard it is a great way to enjoy the pools and then on the day at sea take in some other activites.

I have heard that you can take a bus to a nearby beach. Maybe someone will have more info on this. We have taken a cab on our own to the public beach near Atlantis. From there you can walk on the beach to the beach area of Atlantis. However, it is $4 per person, each way for a cab to the public beach.

Have a great time! No matter what you do, you'll have fun! :boat:

I agree. Pretty much every place you go will cost money -- to get to beaches, Atlantis, etc. is all a taxi or ferry right away.
Stay onboard and enjoy the empty pools. IMHO -- and we've been to Nassau 3 times -- it isn't worth stepping off of that beautiful ship.

We will be going to the Wyndham Resort during our stop in Nassau. You can either take a bus for $1.00 per person or a Taxi at $5.00 per person. But using Wyndham's facilities are Free (as of now anyways)! They should have something for everyone in your group too. They have a Casino, beautiful pool with slide and a nice beach area too. And restaurants you can eat at during your visit. They let you do this for free because they want people to come there and spend money at the Resort.
There are a couple of recent Threads with more info. One is "Cable Beach" and the other is " Something about I just got back"....both have been in the last few days. Hopefully this helps! I'm going in February and will post all about it when I return. I think it's a great idea and makes for a pretty cheap day.

Thanks for the info everyone. $4 each is not that big of a deal I don't want to go completely on austerity but what we paid for the excursion for the 3 of us wasn't worth it IMO so payinmg that for 9 people is a waste IMO. So the $4 looks like a good idea and so does hanging at the wyndham since I would like to gamble....Even though it is also a waste unless I win LOL

We just got back from our Cruise 12-4 (plus land afterwards).

We went to Cable Beach in Nassau. We took a taxi from the port for $5.00 per person, there were 6 of us going out to the beach.

It was about a 20 minute ride (with traffic). The beach was nice and there was no charge. You get dropped off at the Wyndam and walk through the Casino out the back door onto the beach.

We stayed for a few hours. DH lost at the Casino, not much going on in the casino at that time of the day.

4 of us went back to the ship for lunch. The other 2 stayed at the beach. They order a drink from the bar. It was quite expensive.

Since there were only two of them going back, the taxi back was also more expensive. $10. Make sure you clear with the driver the cost of the taxi, before you get in.

Thanks for the info I have to remember that. Are there alot of people bothering you at the beach selling stuff ?

I am all for staying on the ship.. at the very least if I were you I would consider leaving the kids in the programs while you venture out for a time...

We went on a self guided walking tour with the 3 kids for about an hour... went straight back to the ship and the kids went to the programs... (they even got to go on a tour of the bridge at this time) I then headed to the spa (rain forest room) this was great no one was in the rain forest room peace and quiet (heavenly). We than swam in the pools with no crowding...

Next cruise we will NOT be leaving the ship!!!!!!!!
