BTW, I would have no problem with Mccain sending an email to supporters asking them to speak the truth to an author who published lies about the candidate and campaign. The truth needs a way to get out there too.

The calls were orchestrated by the "community organizer's" campaign that demonstrates his ability to rent a mob.

As opposed to the other party who doesn't have to rent a mob... they just keep one on the payroll.

Actually I am because it tells us more and more about who Obama is. His tactics are from Chicago thug politics. The campaign that promised to address the issues has run 77% negative ads in the last week. His mission? Search and destroy.

I personally do not care what Oprah does on her show. The difference is however, that the McCain campaign hasn't organized a boycott against Oprah. If the McCain campaign had sent out emails condemning Oprah's decision, then yes, I would have a problem with that. I don't have a problem about what individual groups do. They make the choice, not the campaign.

No, the very clear difference is that Operation Chaos was organized by a radio talk show host; NOT the McCain campaign. With regard to BO supporters, I didn't "get" that they wanted to speak "truth" the author. It was an hour before the program aired. I think perhaps they wanted to prevent the program from airing. With regard to the truth, the book is well footnoted.

Seems like Obama and his supporters are exercising their right to free speech, not trying to surpress it in others. Obama used his free speech to let his supporters know that someone was going to be the radio, the supporters used their free speech to a) protest the guest and b) call in during the show to voice their opinion of the guest. WGN is free to either cancel the guest or move forward with the show, no one is forcing them to do anything they don't want to do.

I was going to write the same thing. I don't understand Dawn's assertation. This is an excellent example of how free speech works.

Now, if Obama's supporters had been refused to voice their views on the book and guest, then that would have been an example of attacking free speech.

But Dawn's example is a wonderful example of having the freedom to express your views, positive and negative, of a subject at hand.

So, say, if Michael Moore would come out with a film on McCain before the election, you would also say it is an attack on free speech if McCain organized a group call in to a radio station to voice an opinion about the movie and to correct what they felt were half truths and smears?

Got it. So its ok to have others do your bidding as long as you can claim your hands are clean. Otherwise I'm sure you can provide links to McCain denouncing Operation Chaos.

As much as you want to believe OS are stupid, we can read. What was going to be discussed was well known to the people who called in beforehand. They were not blindly protesting something they had no knowledge of. As far as footnotes, I could footnote very well and accurately a statement that Laura Bush killed an ex-boyfriend. If I left out all surrounding details that exonerated her of any wrongdoing it still wouldn't mean a darn thing.
