free soda onboard!!

I was told by a CM on our 11/30/04 Eastern that it was "a matter of time" 'till pop was free. When we paid our 35.00 for our "unilimited soda" and 3.00 more for the mug I asked "if I had the mug do I need the sticker?" He just smiled and said "if you have the mug you can get a soda!"

A few months ago there was a thread about changes people would like to see at DCL. The soda was one of the big things people wanted to see included with the cost of the cruise!

Hi, I'm the person who works for AAA who posted that e-mail on the other message board- isn't that awesome news?? We just got the e-mail about it today.

It was probably more of a hassle for Disney to produce the mugs, sell them, give out the stickers, and explain it to guests than to just give it away free. Soda costs them hardly anything anyways.

I'm somewhat indifferent about the change. Over the course of five cruises I've probably purchased five or so glasses/cans of Coke so it really didn't bother me to pay for them. (But, I am glad that it will make so many others happy! )


And yet, now the "charge for soda" seems even weirder than before. They're going to offer free soda at the Beverage Station, at all sit-down meals, and on Castaway Cay but not at the bars? It would seem miniscule to also provide beverages at the bars since nearly all of the other venues will offer it. (Not in any way being critical but just making an observation.)

Also, I wonder if DCL will swallow the cost (doubtful) or if other charges/fees will be adjusted?

Jason, I have to agree, not at the bars, but always at the beverage station? Just a bit weird. I guess it's so people can still pay for their convenience. Way I figure, if I'm going to have to pay to not get out off my deck chair, I might as well add something to the coke and make it worthwhile.

The credits are just for the AAA bookings, the free soda is for EVERYBODY!!

While at first I always wanted soda included in the price of the cruise, now I'm not so sure. The last three cruises I have been soda-less because I'm cheap. I drank water instead. Now with soda being free I'll have to use my own willpower to resist the urge to be sucking on a soda all day! I'd rather save those calories for a chocolate souffle at Palo!

Wouldn't you know this would've happened just after I returned from the Magic? (June 5th!)

Oh well, at least this time I didn't buy the mug, but brought my own Dr. Peppers.

Next time, I won't have to lug the excess baggage. (I'll carry it home on my body instead the way I've always done after the usual 5-8 lb gain!)

I'm thinking you have to pay by the bars as they don't want people sitting there all evening just drinking soda; they want you to spend $$ drinking real drinks.

In any case, it's a good deal. I wonder how much extra this good deal is going to cost

I am SO thrilled! This has always been one of my BIG problems with the cruise. Now we won't have to try to find a place to stop on the way to the cruise to buy pop before we board! YEAH!!!

Goodness -- my two small complaints with DCL are now resolved -- they're brewing real iced tea in the dining rooms and now I can have my usual diet coke every a.m. for free! I'm sure we're paying for it in the cost of our cruise, but this makes DCL the perfect vacation!

Especially since we set sail on the 19th!!

Life is soooo sweet!
