Free ride with Uber

Has anyone gotten their "first" ride with Uber for free? I seen a promo for that but was wondering. I already have Uber downloaded and used on my phone, but my husband does not. So I thought if we were to set him up an account we might could get one leg of our trip to Typhoon Lagoon for free. But, does the driver get paid if you get a "free" ride? I wouldn't dare do it if the driver didn't get paid.

Also, do you get, use discount promo codes on rides that you do pay for?
