"Free" Parking - Anyone Ever Do This?

Disney just should add the $14 to the ticket prices and give resort guests a $14 discount per night. As an added benefit, they can get rid of the toll booths at the entrances to the parking areas and save on staffing costs as well...

:rolleyes1
Doesn't exactly work. Let's say two couples decide to go to Disney. They travel together and stay off site. Under your plan, they now have to pay $56 every DAY to go to the parks. Even if you raise ticket prices by only $5... that same car is now spending $20 a day.

I don't condone cheating, but what is wrong with wanting to save between $50 and $100 if they can? It is not $14, it's $14 x 5, 6, or 7 for a lot of people. If you can park for free legally, then why not? If they have to pay to park, then they're obviously staying offsite, which may be because they can't afford to stay onsite. I stay onsite, but don't look down on those that don't or can't financially afford to.

It's $14 per car, not $14 per person to park.

The one thing that I will say .... $14 is a ridiculous amount to charge for parking!!! To me, it is appalling that after how much you pay to GET INTO THE PARKS that they screw you for parking too.

Why not free?

Or nominal.

And don't get me started on the $7 for a locker!!!!!!!!

I can deal with ticket prices ... I can even deal with the food prices ... but the parking pissed me off!

I go to a concert or ball game and spend $10 for parking for ~ 3 hours. That's $3.33/hour. Heck, let's even say I'm there 5 hours... that's $2/hour. At that same rate, your $14 to park at Disney gets you 7 hours in the park. I'm guessing MOST guests spend more than 7 hours in a park.

You been to a major league baseball game lately?

Exactly my point. To be honest, I think parking and counter service food are a couple of the only things Disney prices reasonably. Even the tickets aren't horrible if you're going for longer than a few days.

We cheerfully pay for the parking but I do wish that they had a late day fee that was a bit lower. We've gone to Epcot just to have dinner and it's the pits to pay the full daily fee.

WDW should just ban all cars. If you want/need a car you must purchase it directly from WDW. No rentals either. This would also keep the riff raff out.

It's just not worth it! The $14 parking fee is totally worth not dealing with the hassel & travel time of the "free" Disney transport. I'd be curious to know how many people who've taken advantage of this "crack" in the system have done it even more than once. My husband and I stayed at BW in December. We decided to take the boat to DHS. We waited nearly 40 minutes for that boat. Coming back we decided it would be quicker to walk the path back even though, at the end of the night, it was the last thing we felt like doing.

My DH and I were just in Disney last week and were discussing the parking situation, especially at DTD. I think they can put in a system where you get a ticket upon entering the parking lot. This ticket will allow you up to 3 hours of free parking, but will start charging per hour beyond this. This charge can increase for each additional hour. This would definitely deter anyone from parking there to go a park. However, if you are staying onsite you just show your valid room key at the kiosk on the way out and your charge is waived.

This can also work at resort parking lots. If you're staying at that resort you don't get charged, but if you're staying at another resort or offsite it would work the same way.

Parking in other tourist places is similar in price. All day parking at the French Quarter in New Orleans is about $20. All day parking at the Georgia Aquarium is $10. Parking at Universal Studios is $15.

:lmao:

I love how people insist on referring to something that is completely in line with Disney policy as "cheating", simply because, for some unknown reason, they personally don't like the idea of someone doing it.

Wow. I registered on here just a few days ago, and I'm regretting doing so.

This board has so many pompous, holier-than-thou posters.

It's good to know that you all are perfect!!

Another satisfied customer.... or someone who didn't like the answers given to the original question. :rolleyes1

I’m sorry anyone that parks at a resort to “hop” to a park is just an evil person. In my book you are no different than a murderer. If I see someone in a lot without a parking pass I call the tow company directly. If a CM disagrees I report them to guest services to have them terminated. I pay big $ to park at a resort and I refuse to look for a spot. I should have the very first spot each and every time as this is what I pay for.

That depends. You can pay $20 a day to park, you can pay $10, or you can pay nothing. There are lots, meters, and old fashioned parking spots that are free. And the meters are free at certain times. Unlike WDW, you have a choice, you don't have to pay to park in the Quarter.

And we wonder why each generation seems to be more apathetic then the last. It starts with teaching the acceptance of poor behavior at a young age if it doesn't affect you directly and progresses to not reporting bullying and the like when a little older and finally to adults with no regard for how things might affect others.

I know it is difficult to manage a classroom of 6 year olds. I am not a teacher, but have volunteered in classrooms on many occasions and I wouldn't want to have to deal with it on a regular basis. However, if the rule is to only take 5 crayons at a time and little suzy took 8, one is sending a mixed message when little Tommy points it out and is then dismissed with a "mind your own business" like response. After enough times of this, little Tommy is going to "mind his own business" when little Kaitlin is getting bullied. Wouldn't it be better to foster an atmosphere where rules are enforced and doing the right thing is rewarded?

Nail..... meet head. :thumbsup2

I asked my aunt and she said you can "borrow" her handicapped tag on your next trip so you'll have the first spot every time. She also said you can rent her ECV for a nominal fee. :cool2:

Don't give them ideas. Isn't Steve Jobs the largest shareholder? We'd only be allowed Apple cars. :)

Seriously, there will always be people figuring ways to screw with a system. Refillable mugs from 1972, "free" parking, scrapper collectible pins, pool and park hopping. You can't stop them. It's frustrating as hell for those of us who actually pay for what we should, but you can't change people, so stop trying. That's my philosophy anyways.
