Free park tickets during our stay!

My family and I just got word that a friend of the family is going to pay for our park tickets for our ENTIRE TRIP! This is going to save us a boat load of money for our 7 day 6 night stay! The only teeny problem is now, because we'll have a room only ressie, we can't do the dining plan. I'm thinking that I'll just wait to change the package to room only, pay for the trip like it is an entire package, cancel the park tickets and have them refund me the overage and use that money for meals.

Why would you do that? Just cancel the package and book a room-only reservation. Why let Disney hold onto your money? They won't issue it as a room credit and if you cancel/re-book with less than 45 days before your arrival, you pay a $200 cancellation fee.

If you book your room by renting DVC points you can have the dining plan and have separate tickets like that. Is your trip far off?

I ask that just due to availability.

If you have a room only reservation there is no cancelation fee, unless you wait for two days before. And even then you are only charged for one night. We do room only every time since we are pass holders.

I would just save the money and pay for dining with cash or buy giftcards.
