I believe the McDonalds near Blizzard Beach and DTD have free WiFi.

According to the McDonalds website, neither of locations offer the WIFI.

I'm not sure if that site is up to date however. Last time I was there, Sept of 08, neither did.

There was a rumor that the lobby of YC/BC had freely accessible WIFI and that was confirmed a few times in the fall... not sure if that's still there. It's clearly a mistake if it is.

And WWoS does offer it but that's pretty much a hike for free net.

DISers have reported using the lobby of the BC, but someone also mentioned that it was intended for DVC owners only.

Here is a link to a report (that I can't validate) on free WiFi hotspots found throughout WDW:

If you only need Internet for a few minutes here and there, why not sign up for a free NetZero account and use dial-up?

Can you do that??? I didn't know that was possible! Hmmmmm! Might have to check that out! I just sign up for Net Zero and plug up the phone line to my laptop??? WOW...I hope it is that easy!

Wait....I just thought about something. What will my charges with AKL be??? Will I be charged anything for using the phone line? So much per call (dial up), or so much per minute I use the phone line????

I'd be careful about that. You would still be making a call from the Disney phone and the cost could be more than you are expected.

Before you try, I would definitely check with the resort to see how much they charge for an in-room call to the dial up number.

I just emailed the IPO to check that out. I will post back and let you guys know what they said. I downloaded Net Zero already and man was it fast and easy!

It's either seventy-five cents per call, or local calls are included in your room rate (depending who you ask). You do want to make sure you use a local number - I know for AOL, Orlando numbers are local but Kissimmee numbers are long distance.

There's a specific Net Zero account you need to sign up for; search the boards for free Net Zero or free NetZero; someone asked this question somewhere here in the last week, and one of the responses identified the specific account name.

We use AOL dial-up for travel, if you use a local 1-407- number, the calls from your Disney hotel room are free. You can ask at the front desk about what number to use. Dial-up is slower, but we use it to check email and browse the internet.

Which resort are you staying at? We are here at the YC and you get free WiFi in the lobby area and lounge.

I am at the YC right now and can confirm the free WiFi in the lobby area including the lounge.

Fantastic - THanks.

I wonder why - if this is considered a DVC perk - it isn't offered across all DVC resorts ?

Hmm.. The thick plottens..

:)

Free wired internet access in your room is a perk of DVC members as we still had to pay $9.95 a day to use our laptop in our room. I used the free WiFi in the lobby for my iPodTouch when I was relaxing in the lounge in the afternoons.

It could be available at YC/BC because it is a convention hotel. This service would be expected for many business travelers.

oK - so why not ALL the convention hotels?

If the other argument is it's for DVC owners, why not ALL DVC properties?

I wonder if it's some kind of test?

It's not a test, it's probably more like an uncorrected mistake.

While on the BC/YC thread last year, many reported, including TeenaS who is a CM/greeter at the BC, that WiFi was available in the lobby:

fitgirl36 said that the free WiFi hotspots for the BC is listed in the blue binder in the room. If this was a non-DVC room, I'm not sure why it would be in there. How can the resorts adequately monitor each guests' internet usage in public areas to make sure they're DVC members?

Maybe *TeenaS* could help set the record straight on whether there is or isn't any free WiFi at the resorts. At least 3 threads are very confused right now.

TeenaS: There is definitely free internet in the lobby of the BC right now for everybody, not just vacation club members. I'll check it out at the YC since I'll be over there working on Friday and Saturday this week.

Someone, though I can't remember exactly who, reported that it was a mistake that everyone was able to connect freely, as it is intended for DVC owners only.
