Does anyone know if I am eligible for free internet for my upcoming stay? I am using points to stay at the Poly.

No, the free internet is only for members staying at DVC resorts on reservations made thru MS. It won't apply to non-DVC stays.

That's what I was thinking. I guess I'll be bringing my air card with. Thanks for the quick answer Doc!

I have to ask, why the decision to use points at a deluxe hotel for such a premium over a DVC resort? I always thought about doing this at the CR (prior to BLT), but cash reservations always came out cheaper than the point value.

I don't think it's wrong to do, just curious why folks have done so.
We have used our points in the Concierge Collection for non-Disney stuff (Makinaw Island, Keystone, CO, etc.) and paid quite a point premium but never at Disney.

I completely agree. We had some extra points and wanted to stay Poly concierge for a few nights for our 20th anniversary. I have rented out points before, but prefer to not deal with the hassle:)

I did it once, I stayed at POFQ. I wanted a Sunday night as an add-on to a business trip and no DVC resorts were available (3 weeks before). I had extra points in my account, so I used them (I think it was 18 points). This was before the $95 fee, I would not do it now.

Another reason might be that they used the points to book a non-DVC stay, such as a cruise and then cancelled it. The points can only be reused at a non-DVC.

FYI....here's the math on what I ended up with. 297 points, cash price would have been $2655. Not the best use of points, but I had a bunch to use;) Poly in 31 days...I can't wait!

Definitely can make sense, I was just more curious than anything. In CA, it's nearly identical to stay at GCV in a DVC room as a regular room at the Disneyland Hotel. If people think there's a point premium at BLT, the GCV's are really bad.

Anyway, just wondering the mindset. There are two hotels I've never stayed in that I'd love to:
Poly
CR Tower MK View

I've stayed at the CR, but in the old north garden wing that is obviously defunct. 3rd floor, no view - but I was just happy to be at the CR. It's my favorite hotel.

If you have the points - use them! I get easier than renting for sure.

I realize that many who advocate that this is a poor use of points are placing a certain "value" on their points and that is usually at least $10 per point.

I would offer an alternative assessment and place the "value" at what my maintenance fees were on the points being used. Using the actual maintenance cost of the points for that year makes your stay at the Poly somewhere around $1200 - $2000 for that stay (depending on the home resort for those points - and maybe even less if these were banked points using the 2009 maintenance fees).

Of course, it's also reasonable to add in some "value" to account for the original cost of the points, but regardless I tend to fall in the group that feels the use of DVC points can still be a "value" when used for things like Disney Collection and Concierge Collection stays (even with the $95 fee).

That also makes the "value" of using the points at DVC resorts even greater when you compare the DVC accommodations you could have gotten for the same number of points. There is no question in my mind that the best "value" is using DVC points at DVC resorts, but I also feel there is good "value" using them on occasion for other options.

YMMV! :teeth:

Enjoy your stay at the Poly - even without the free internet! :)
