Free internet for DVC members when not staying on points?

We're staying at VWL on an interval exchange right now. We're also DVC members. The front desk told us that members get free internet access, but that we'd have to call member services to have them set that up since this is an interval exchange. I just called MS and they said that even though we're members, we won't get free internet service because we're not staying on points. Is that correct? From everything I've read so far, it's just been straight out that members get free internet service at DVC resorts. I didn't see any caveats. Thank you for any info!

That is probably corrct, as the reservation would be coded as an exchange, not a member reservation. Just like members on cash through CRO would not get free internet.

That would make sense. The front desk did think that we would qualify for the free internet in the DVC unit because we were members, though. It doesn't seem like anyone at the resort or MS knows the answer for sure since they've give us 2 different answers, so I'm going to err on the side of caution and not use the internet for the rest of the week. No biggie!

We returned home today from AKV staying on points. We were charged internet access fees for three of the five days. When I went to the front desk they said they were having problems with the billing system. They corrected the charge immediately. It makes me wonder if they would even check to see if you were staying on points or not.

I went down to the desk once more, and they were SURE that we should get free internet access no matter what because we're members. I had them call MS to double-check because I didn't want any surprises, and sure enough MS said that the member had to be staying on points. The VWL/WL desk CMs thought that this made no sense, as it doesn't say anywhere that the member has to be staying on points. Their contention is that we pay dues and that this is a member perk according to the "member perk" booklet (with no mention that you have to be staying on points). I didn't get it resolved either way, so I'm only logging on once this week (today) to check email and such (surfing the dis counts I guess:rotfl: ). If we get charged, I'll go to the desk but I'm not expecting to get credited back. It seems like this is a gray area to them:confused3 Oh well.

There are definitely some inconsistencies. A friend of mine was told by a manager at BWV that exchanges did not qualify for free internet. I just got back from an exchange stay at OKW where I was not charged.

As with anything else at Disney, the only consistency is inconsistency. I'm to the point where I just figure that sometimes I am charged when I'm not supposed to be, and other times I am when I'm not, but in the end it will all wash out.

And yes, I know that this means Mickey will end up getting more of my money, but in the end, on vacation, I've decided that spending the time and emotional capital asking after $10 here and there just isn't worth it anymore.
