Free Fall into All Stars Fridge Swap- Fridge is Lost!!!!!

So is anyone on our fridge swap doing a pre-trip report? I would love to read it if you are. I'm thinking about it but I'm afraid it would be so boring! :lmao:

I would probably bore everyone to tears. However, I may do a trip report if I remember to take lots of photos of our food, etc. My family is all grown, so I'm not sure it will be as exciting as someone with small children.

On another note, I took the plunge and sent in the order for my groceries and the 2.7 cu foot fridge from the grocery delivery service yesterday :cool1: The lady said she found the one I was looking at our local Wal-mart at a Wal-mart that she shops, so it is official! Please don't back out on my now, or I'm stuck! :)

Remember to send me your reservation information sometime and also share it with the swapper before and after you. If you have a break, you can wait until closer to make sure we don't have another swapper join later.

I did a TR once and it was too time consuming and boring!! I had some readers, not a lot though. I think the whole thing lasted about 6 pages! This year I did a Dining Report. That was a lot of fun and I had a lot of readers! I will probably do another one after this next trip.

I woke up around 2am with fridge swap on the brain. I have never participated in one so I am not sure if this is the norm or not so sorry if I am a little behind. These are just my ideas....When the fridge is delivered instead of opening it on the top, if you pack a cheap box cutter (or just a blade or pocket knife ) in your checked bag then cut the box around the bottom maybe an inch up, so that the whole top pulls off like a present. This way nobody has to worry about lifting the fridge into and out of the box and we just tape around the bottom. My other idea was to bungee cord the fridge (in box) to one of those folding luggage carts. That way it can be just wheeled around instead of having to hunt down a baggage cart or wait for a bellman, you could just bring it the them or the next swapper. That might make for easier identification if lost (ie. look for one with a cart straped to it) If anyone thinks that would work and has an extra one or finds one at a garage sale maybe they can pick it up for the group. I will be on the look out myself.

Not sure if either would work or not, just a 2am  thought though.

These all sound like good ideas. I was actually thinking of checking an inexpensive flat box opener in my luggage and seeing if I could fit it on a page protector pocket that I could tape on the outside of the box. I wonder if we could use some kind of luggage strap to help prevent all the taping and untaping of the box- thus keeping it intact a little longer? I did have a cheap luggage cart- I'll look, but I may have tossed it on one of my closet cleaning binges (which are very rare in my case-so long ago that I can't remember what I threw away :lmao: )

Since the swap is starting at the All Star Sports is that going to be the "home base" for the fridge when it has to go in to storage?

Yes, I would prefer it to be kept at ASSports for storage for a couple of reasons: 1. very few fridge swaps are based at ASSports and I am hoping that will eliminate it getting confused with another fridge swap or lost completely.
2. I am going to try to find a contact person when I am on my trip and I am staying at ASSports.

I am willing to make allowances or exceptions as long as I have good communication as to where it is left. That is especially true if someone has a car or is willing to move it to the next resort for the next swapper who may not be able to get it from ASSports easily. I think communication between all parties will be the key to a successful swap. We owe it to the people later in the swap to do everything possible to make sure the fridge gets to them!

Great! Now we just need some more people to sign up to fill in the vacant times.

If any of you have a Wal-mart nearby, you may want to check out the display model of the fridge I have ordered- it is a Haier brand 2.7 cu ft. Our local Wal-mart actually has it for less than the stores I called in the Orlando area, which made me sad :sad1: -but at least we can see the inside dimensions to get a better idea how much we can store in it! :thumbsup2

Hey I think this is the same fridge from a Pop swap i was in last year. It's got a lot of room and works really well!!!

I really like it and for the small price difference it is much larger than the smaller 1.7cu ft size. When I looked at the 1.7 cu ft one I was very disappointed in the interior room! The 2.7 seems to be a lot more practical. :dance3:

sasha's goofy- updated our post to show I received your check! For the Sept. reservation, she is helping us keep the fridge out of storage.
Momto2inKC, sasha's goofy will make arrangements with you to get the fridge before you leave but she has MNSSHP tickets on the 28th evening. Let her know what works for you!

Everyone else, please let me know if you will have a car while vacationing and if you are willing to leave the fridge at one of the other All Stars if the person after you is at a different resort. A few people are concerned about transporting it between resorts.
Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know that we will have a car when we vacation in November/December.

Thanks!
Alli

We will not have a car when we are down there. However, it would not bother me to move the fridge to the next persons resort if they dont want to come and get it from Sports.

I am a little concerned though because the next resort is in movies for the reasons you stated earlier. So many fridges stay at Movies its easier to be lost.

Saying that I will do whatever is needed of me. :) My husband said he didnt mind either. I believe its only for 1 night so it should be ok.

Thanks for the offer to help! :) I can't remember which order the resorts are in, is ASMusic or ASMovies the closest resort to ASSports? I know we were looking for music related gifts for a friend and my daughter and I walked to all of the All Stars to check out the themed gifts. It was a hike in the heat, but not terrible, considering how much walking we did everywhere at WDW!
