Free Fall Dining?

Granted it's just a rumor but I have heard that this year's "free dining" has been reduced to ONE QS credit per person, per day. No snacks or TS unless they allow you to upgrade. If this IS the case, everyone better get ready for WWIII.

Well they are doing a quick service free dining this summer at the value resorts.

Best bet is to stay away from Labor Day weekend....... Days bookending those holiday weekends will be excluded as well.

Can you confirm where you learned this? According to historical dates for FD (see post #3 of this thread) Labor Day has not been given in the list of black out dates.
eta: reading through more of this thread, others are reporting having rec'd FD for their Labor Day weekend stays. I think maybe you are thinking of another promotion?

Also keep in mind certain resorts will NOT be included - last year AOA and the bungalows at Poly, and PO Riverside were all excluded from the promotion. I would expect similar restrictions this year.

I thought when I looked at last years free dining that Labor Day was actually included. Is that not the case? I just moved my trip up a week to include Labor Day o_O

I hadn't thought of this. As of now, I'm going Labor Day week and DO have the Hopper added to my package. I've never used a Park Hopper before and maybe that's because I've always gone in Sept. Hmmm...now I'm just confused and don't know if I should keep it! :confused3

Neither Labor Day weekend or Halloween have been excluded.

The past few years, Riverside has been excluded but French Quarter was included in the promotion. If similar restrictions apply this year and you want Free Dining you could switch over to FQ.

It is really all a guessing game though. This is just the trend over the last couple years.

As for other offers, there is a chance Disney could run a room discount option during the slower months in the Fall as well.

No. Riverside was included on early dates, excluded on later dates last year.
There was a year prior that it was excluded but it backfired and they began sending out FD offers.
Prior to that year POR was available for FD each year, I stayed there myself on it.

No. French Quarter has not been included for some time.

Riverside has been included in the FD promotion, but some dates were restricted. POFQ has not offered FD to the general public for the last few years.

YES. POR was included in the early dates,
which were FD traditional dates for years before they added the Oct on dates.
"Please note that Disney’s Port Orleans — Riverside is excluded from the offer from October 25 – December 21."

I believe the last time it was included was Fall 2012. We stayed there then and def. had FD.
I was thinking it was late summer/fall 2013, but I could be wrong. I know we stayed at Pop in late August 2013, and we booked a FD bb at POFQ for 2014.

Maybe. We didn't go in 2013 so I wasn't watching, but I remember reading here during my 2014 "FD watch" many posters saying FQ is one of the most-excluded resorts, so I guess from that I assumed it was NOT included in 2013

Requirement or no, I personally would never do a trip without park hopper. I always split parks on basically every day of my trips. The waterparks ticket wouldn't work for me, though.

The funny thing is - a LOT of people book windows in hopes that they'll turn into free dining windows. Since they use Free Dining and other promotions to increase bookings, these type of bookings may potentially inhibit such a promotion from occurring.

Exactly. IMO, this practice is counter productive.

IMO requiring the purchase of park hopper or water parks further erodes the value of the "free dining" offer. It seems once people were hooked they've been decreasing the value, upping the price, & requiring more & more add ons in order to qualify.
It all depends on what your family would purchase, If you normally add hoppers, why is the value eroded? I think that we all seem to think everyone tours the way we do, and that simply is not the case. My family usually purchases hoppers, so having to buy it makes not one penny of difference to me, it's already factored into our budget.

I just got the same PIN in my email that I got last year (not free dining). It's for up to 30% off room rate + free park hopper for 5/30–8/25/16. Hopefully things continue the way they do and they offer free dining for early September as well. Crossing my fingers for the 2 weeks after Labor Day...

Um, I booked early last year and the whole reason I was able to get the promotion was because of that. So, it's not defeating. If I wouldn't have booked early, I wouldn't have gotten the dates and resort I wanted because it's all done through AAA for me. So, maybe it doesn't work out for some people, but for me, it did.

You were lucky. In order to "apply" the discount, you need to cancel and rebook. If there was no availability for this discount at the resort you wanted, you would have had to change resorts in order to use it.
AAA may have negotiated the details for you, but they were necessary.

I would prefer cheaper room rates over free dining. Someone has to pay for it and one way is to factor the cost into the room rate.

Nothing in this world is free.

Amazing what the word "FREE" does. I know a store owner who was selling something at 33 1/3 off. It didn't move so he repriced to buy 3 and get the 4th one free it flew off the shelf. The owner had the last laugh. The customer got a 25 percent discount instead of 33 1/3 percent discount. and they didn't even realize it.

You are right, nothing is "free", but the discounts are the discounts. Call them what you want, but respect that for many, FD is the better offer. My family generally needs two rooms, and we will use different FD on one and RO on another many times. Your family may benefit from a RO discount, but mine may not. Or as we have done in the past, FD on one and RO on the other. And I laugh and I laugh and I laugh when people tell me I got snookered. I am pretty clear about what my savings are, and then to double check, I ask DD to build her spreadsheet. And I move our folks around between rooms to make the most of our savings. And I save. A lot.

I admit that I am new to all of this, but if you wait to book how would you get the ADR's you wanted? I just booked mine on Saturday at 6:00AM and still had to give up some of the things I wanted in order to get in. If I waited even a few hours, I wouldn't have got it at all. So how do you wait to try and get free dining and then have restaurant availability?

Also, why would they offer free anything in the peak summer months? Why not wait if they are going to reduce free dining? Again, I am new to this so I may very well be missing something.

Free anything is based on what resorts need to increase their census. My DD booked POR in July for her family, but really would have loved to stay at their favorite, the Poly. They also decided not to buy hoppers, which they dearly like, but she thought they were not worth the money this trip. Well, once teh 30% off pin came and it also included the hoppers, she jumped on it. It was more money but stayed within her vacation budget, and gave them the resort they really wanted.

You can always book your ADR's at 180 days out, but not the +10 that comes with a resort confirmation. I have done that many times when I was in the process of deciding if we were going to go. I was not willing to make that final commitment of a resort but I also needed to be sure I would secure ADR's that would be important to my family. TO be honest, I have always followed through with the trip, but I like to be sure before I book.

We are going to DW for our 30th anniversary and my granddaughter and her parents are coming to celebrate her 8th birthday. We are going in September after Labor Day. Where can we find if they will offer the free dining plan for our resort-(right now Sports but maybe upgrade to Riverside) and our time frame?

I would keep close attention to the boards. If an offer is coming, there usually is a conversation going on here.

Since I am really hoping for free dining and my dates are completely flexible, I stalk disboards daily. I created another thread here called 2016 free dining and have also searched with the search option for threads like mine here so I can follow those as well.

Traditionally, it is anywhere from March to May that fall free dining dates are announced. Someone "in the know" will post on this website very early on so just keep on a watching!

You can look at mousesavers.com and search "historical free disney dining dates" as well.

We were able to book a bounce back for October 1-12th with free dining. Park hopper was required. October 1st was the last day you were allowed to check in for the promotion.
I am so irritated. We have been to Disney World once a year for the past 4 years staying at the yacht or beach club. I have never heard of a bounce back. That is something I would definitely consider. Where would we find this offer so that I am on the lookout when we go this August?

It's usually right in the middle of the booklet that's in your room. If you don't see it, just dial 8844 from your hotel room phone and ask what the bb offer is. It's been free dining for the following year for the past several years during our late August stays. If you ask the front desk about it, they won't know what you're talking about.

The free dining bb for this year doesn't start until August 26th. In the past it started around Aug. 20th. Only time will tell, if it's offered again. I'm hoping it sticks around.
