OK with AK shuting down 1/3+ rooms for dvc constuction, and when finnished more rooms in inventory.
Upgrades from values to mods and DVCs.In my mind disney is getting lots of new rooms which it will not be able to fill "huraccane season".this all shows they have large spare capacity at this time of year
So they will offer free dinning again eather in bounceback(this aug or around xmas)and targeting key markets, like the UK one they offered last year?

I don't see any significant trend in non-DVC inventory. They may or may not be offering free dining again, but nothing currently happening, I believe, makes it any more or less likely.

Disney has traditionally offered great discounts after the schools go back in session and before the October F&W Festival.

The fact that Disney is moving guests out of POP might indicate that the resorts were "oversold" and Disney might not need as generous a promotion in 2008.

they might have over sold the values but not the mods and deluxes

I wonder how much Hurricane season will play into their decision. If we really have an active season Disney may feel that the free DDP will be an incentive to get people back into the parks. If the season is mild perhaps the season will not impact vacation decisions.

I'm not sure about that. I have seen complaints that some people could not get free dining at a couple of the deluxes, so presumably their occupancy is pretty high.

In addition to taking part of AKL out of service, they've also demolished the North wing of the Contempory. That's an additional reduction in the inventory of deluxe rooms. Not sure what the Contemporary demolition is all about...;)

Also, AKV will not be completed until 2009, so it's hard to figure what effect, if any, that will have next year. And when it is completed, the vast majority of that inventory will go to DVC owners and we aren't eligible for free dining. If anything, it seems like AKV should work against free dining.

IF they offer free dining next year, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer it to those two groups first. They had HUGE success with those promotions this year -- to the point that there was a good deal of talk that they wouldn't even offer free dining to the general public.

thats what i think more targeted.thats why waiting till after aug(offered last aug to uk) to book next year.

I was reponding to Paul's assertion that there had been significant changes in the number of rooms available (I don't believe there has been) and that that would make it more likely that free dining would be offered (I don't believe that there is any reason to believe that free dining is more or less likely to be offered).

Sorry guys - I hate to sound dumb here but what is "bounce back program"??

Thanks,

The bounceback program was offered to guests already staying on site last December. During their WDW stay, they could book a package for specific times into 2007 that offered free dining.
Once the guest checked out, they were not able to book the package.
And it was only set up to be booked at a few select WDW resorts. Many here on the Dis knew about this. Many were saying they saw nothing about it during their stay. While others did see the bounceback package offer.
It was a test for Disney (I think) on the effectiveness of guests being able to book with a CM, face to face, for their future stay during their current stay.
I think these are used quite often on cruise ships, Disney and non.

Thanks very much for that clarification -

Wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something :yay:

Is there any chance of their being free dining when i am there 2nd Jan-13th Jan 2008? Here's hoping!!!!!

I know they do specials for people from the UK. DO you know if they do anything for those of us from the land downunder?

"Any" chance? Of course -- there's always a chance anything could happen in this wonderful universe of ours. :)

However, no, don't count on it. Free dining has only been applied in the past to fill rooms during hurricane season. Though the week after New Year's is also very lightly attended at WDW, it is only a very short period of time after New Year's before the convention season starts, and the hotels are filled with folks attention conventions and conferences.

It's really hard to speculate on these things because none of us have any idea what percentage of rooms Disney opens up for these promotions. Free DDP, for instance, is 10%, 20%, 30% or maybe even higher...that could make a big difference as to whether or not they need help filling those rooms up next season. Also, the percentage could vary greatly from one resort to another. Any have a reliable crystal ball?
