Free dining

When I see Free Dining dates announced, the only thing I think of is, I better make my ADRs if my dates are similar to the FD dates released. It looks like my September trip and the first half of my October dates will be impacted.

Exactly my thoughts. We go to WDW every Fall for F & W. Restaurants are packed and ADRs hard to get but free dining not available to us DVCers. It would be nice to get a PAP discount in exchange.

I think he's saying since they give free dining, it's an inconvenience to "disney's loyal customers" ie...us DVCers. Unfortunately if you feel that free dining is really free....then rent out your points and make a "rack rate" reservation through Disney at a "free dining" resort. To me, I just say forget it with paying Disney extra $ for meals then if they are all packed. There is usually only 1 or 2 places we like to sit down at per trip anyway, and those are hard to get whether it's a free dining time or not.

Actually what it does for me is I am now not buying a dining plan as a DVC member since I won't have much of a chance of getting what I want in terms of reservations. Not a big loss for Disney but for $40 I can drive a mile outside of the gate and have many options, or I can use my DVC kitchen and cook.

Our trip as well! I made ADR's this morning...Wouldn't it be nice if DVC offered SOMETHING to members during "FREE DINING"??? Actually, that was a JOKE since it was "near impossible" on MDE in the early morning, 5AM trying to make dining reservations. Kept saying some type of system message which meant that the sytem was overloaded with those making free dining reservations.:scared1:
How about a DVC discount on meals during free dining offered to on site guests? 10-20% would be NICE! :thumbsup2:wizard:

There actually already are quite a bit of discounts for DVC already. 10% is the norm.....occasionally 20%. Usually lunch, but some places dinner. I don't have the link handy but you can google it. Typically the places we use TiW at don't offer DVC discounts, but it's definitely something to look up if you are thinking about TiW.

You mean in addition to the 50 years of discounted vacations that Disney has already guaranteed DVC owners? (Plus ticket discounts, shopping discounts, TIW access, etc.) Not to mention the fact that September - December includes some of the lowest-point weeks on the calendar.

As others have said....why? If you're Disney, why would you even consider doing that??

Correct me if I am wrong, but not all Disney Restaurants offer DVC discounts! :confused3

No, not all....that's why I said to google the list.

As Bill pointed out, free dining is not free. You pay more for the hotel room, and you MUST get the park tickets through disney in order to get the FREE dining. DVC room and other ticket sources will save you more than the dining plan. They owe you nothing.....you get nothing. If you are truly wanting the free dining, you are free to rent out your points instead of making a DVC reservation, book a Disney room package and get the free dining. I guarantee you will see how NOT free "free dining" is. It's a promotion to fill empty hotel rooms at slower times. You don't see free dining during major holidays, or during the peak of summer. Because they don't have a problem filling rooms during that time.

To everyone who believes that DVC members should get free dining:
WHY?
Should Disney offer you something for free, when you have a contract that you agreed to.
I never said I wanted free dining. The DDP has been the down fall of Disney restaurants, lower quality, higher prices and difficulty getting ADRs. And I'm not asking for anything free. Luckyman_apd gets an A+ in reading comprehension.

And I'm not asking for anything free.

Your original post was simply: "OK, free dining announced. What about DVCers."

Not a giant leap to assume you were asking for SOMETHING for free for DVC members. If not the case, then please answer your own question: What about DVCers???

I previously posted (two times), that a PAP discount would be nice. DVC has offered this before and it's certainly not free.

is the site crashing for anyone else? I am trying to compare 2 different resorts to see if the savings in dining even it out if i were to upgrade but everytime the server says its to busy! Im scared its going to sell out and also CM chat isnt working! im dying here

lol. Neither is "free dining" free. Most families have to spend thousands of dollars on a room / ticket / food vacation package in order to get the dining component for "free."

Also, DVC members have had a discount on Premium Annual Passes for more than 10 years now. Granted they have also run periodic discounts with extra deep savings on those passes, but I'm sure Disney and/or DVC has its own methods for deciding when that will happen.

If your line of thinking is "Disney is doing something good for the other people...why not me, too?", I think you will be consistently disappointed. DVC itself is a vehicle for obtaining deep savings on accommodations. And owners also have access to an extensive list of discounts on park admission, dining, shopping and recreation. Disney feels ZERO obligation to heap additional discounts on DVC members just because their cash hotel business is running a sale.
