Free Dining

We are in the early stages of planning a trip for October 1-8. From what I have read, in the past sometimes there has been a free dining offer for that time and sometimes not. My question is - if we book now, can we add on free dining later if they announce it? Would we have to add the regular dining and have them adjust it to free later? Or could we just add the free dining without having the regular dining booked first?

Also, my understanding is that in the past the free dining offer was announced at the end of March for dates through the end of September. They then added other dates - does anyone know when we might expect (knowing this is a guess) them to announce our dates, if indeed they do? Just trying to strategize when to book.

Prior to actually paying off the package, you can generally rebook the package any way you want - so if free dining comes up and is available for your dates, you can rebook a package to include free dining. It doesn't matter if dining was on the package prior or not.

Note that if you book a discounted package now, and rebook later you will lose any discounts. To get free dining, you have to pay full price for the rest.

I also wouldn't bet on past announcement and offer dates being exactly the same this year. Disney has said they plan on cutting back on the deep discounts, although I haven't seen it yet.
