When free dining is offered by WDW, are character meals included? We plan on the DDP for all family members and have all of our ADR's. Is there something I'm not understanding about "free dining" promotion?

Yes! Anything that is 1 TS credit on the DDP (Crystal Palace, Liberty Tree Tavern, Garden Grill, 1900 Park Fare Character Dinner for example) only takes 1 TS credit from your pool. Places such as CRT will take 2 TS credits per meal. The basic DDP gives each person on it 1 TS, 1 CS, and 1 snack per day. Credits are "pooled" so if you want to splurge on a meal that takes 2 TS, that is OK. If you go to the main WDW website (official) there will be a brochure that lists everything/every meal and the "cost" (credit wise). Most places take 1 TS meal but there are special meals that do take 2 TS. Free dining is simply a free DDP, no more or no less! It is an awesome deal! Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for such a quick reply. The reason I ask is that a friend of mine booked a vacation (not DVC) and said her family is getting free dining in September 2008. We are going 9/14-9/21. Is free dining offered to DVC members too? I can't understand why this isn't mentioned on the DVC member site if true.

Free ddp plan promo ended 6/22 for us regular joes - not sure about dvc members but you may be out of luck too.

There was limited availability for the free dining promotion at each resort. In order to receive the promotion you had to book between early April and June 22 and purchase at least a one day ticket for each person on the reservation.

well you can certainly use it(next year) but, not with your dvc points. youll need to book a package room(at least 3 days i think) and tickets(at least one day). probably not worth it to a dvc member.

All meals at restaurants where the dining plan is accepted are included.

You cannot get free dining when booking with DVC points. It is available only with a rack rate room/tickets package.
