Free Dining Watch 2009 - Dates Released!! Update post 1

Quick question...are Florida residents typically eligible for FD?

Thanks,
Kelli

YES! We did it last year. Here's what we did; bought the MYW package with one day tickets. Once we got there we were able to separate our room and ticket keys. So the room key had both the room entrance (obviously) and our meal plan on it.

Then I was able to upgrade our tickets to a FLR 4-day pass. We got lucky and had a Manager checking us in that night (I say that because I don't think everyone can do it for you at the hotels)... So we got it all done in at once. However I have heard of others having to go to either a ticket booth or guest relations to have their tickets upgraded.

Doing this saved us about 120 bucks for our family of 4. :thumbsup2

Does anyone know when Disney will release the dates for the free dining period around September of each year? That is IF it is happening in 2009....

I wouldn't say that free dining is going to be offered as a "sure thing", even though it's been offered the last couple of years. Disney might just extend the 4/3 offer, instead.

I'm sure someone will post any offers, including free dining, as soon as it's offered. The travel agents who work with the DIS will probably get advance notice and share it here.

I just wanted to add my thoughts as someone who was anxiously awaiting free dining last year. We booked a bounceback when we were there last Sept., and I am very thankful I don't have to deal with the stress of waiting this year. I know how stressful it is!

Anyway- what I have learned is- there will always be nay-sayers in these threads that make you think it isn't going to happen. Or that make you think if you book a room first, you will not get a room for FD. While either of these things are slightly possible- I don't think they are likely. There was so much anticipation on these boards last year. And when FD was released people didn't even have to spend hours on the phone- they were just able to book online with no wait! (That is what I did) Most people were able to transfer their reservations to what they wanted (the exception I remember being the ASMu suites- these were few and far between to get) Obviously if you are trying to switch a ressie to something else you would have to call. So while nobody knows for sure if it is going to be offered, I think the chances are very high. It is a great promotion for Disney to get people in the parks during hurricane season. In this economy especially I cannot see them doing away with this promotion (and the fact that they are offering it other times of the year to certain people is a good thing, too).

Also- you can't compare what is offered to England and other countries to what is offered in the US. The fact that we booked a bounceback- at a value resort- with the regular dining plan- I think hints that they will do it similar to how they have done it in the past.

All of this to say- these same concerns were posted here last year. It is going to happen/it isn't going to happen; you can't add it to an existing reservation/most people were able to with no problems; the values sell out in minutes/the values did sell out quicker than the other resorts, but they were available for a few days at the very least; you can't use it at a value/values were included.

So while I think it is possible that Disney may change it slightly (and will probably shorten the timeframe as they do each year) (bounceback always gets a longer range to choose from)- I do think it will happen. They have done it pretty much the same way since it started, and in this economy I don't see them making any drastic changes.

I feel very positive that it will happen :) If there were no bounceback offers in Sept. it would make me a little more nervous, but since there were I feel very good they will offer it again.
:cool1:

This will be my first time getting FD - we have always had to pay for it. I was able to book the bounceback when we were there last October. Prior to finding out about the bb offer we had 6 night res for this coming August at a DVC and then we were booked on a 7 night disney cruise. Our plan was to to fly home after the cruise. When I found out about the bb I said to my DH "since you must go back to work after the cruise, why don't you go home and I will go back to Disney with the kids for a week?". To keep costs down we will be staying at the POP. My DH will be spending the first two nights with us at the POP so we will be left with all of his leftover dining credits. This will be my first time at a value resort and I can't believe what a great deal we are getting.

We're hoping for essentially the same thing (prior plans posted here ditched) Anyway, we are going on a 7 nt Dec 5th cruise. IF Disney Visa free dining comes out Dec 14 or 15 (it did last year), the kids and I will stay on a week while DH returns to work. If FD doesn't come out, we'll just stay on a few nights at a DVC studio.

That's a great idea! Keeping my fingers crossed for FD September 09! And maybe bounceback for 2010? :) Have a great trip, my family really enjoyed the POP last September!

:wave2: Subscribing, and joining in the wait with the rest of you. :coffee:

We are hoping for a return trip to Disney in late August, before our son returns to school (he hits the books on September 8th). As we were just there earlier this month, its free dining (or another 4/3 deal, or something equivalent) or bust.....so here's to a little pixie dust pixiedust: for each of us!

We are booked right now in Nov. with a 40% off code at the Poly but if FD comes out I may switch and try to get POR with FD. We stayed there in 07 during FD and we saved so much money. I just can't decide what to do. :confused3 I would love to stay at the Poly and see WDW with Christmas decorations however we would have just as much fun staying at POR with FD and saving money to be used on other mini vacations throughout the year.

We are planning a trip Oct 8th thru 13th. What hotels do they offer the free dining with??? Is it available to the general public? We want to stay at the Pop, if we have a ressie already can we add the free dining to the ressie?
Thanks for any help

I'm not sure if they will offer FD between Oct 8th-13th. I think that the general public offer usually ends during the first week of Oct, but you never know.
What a great way to spend your 40th bday - I spent my 40th in WDW last October and it was my best birthday ever.

Also not sure if it would be offered during your time frame. FD was available to the general public during late August & September for the past 4 years and it has been offered at all the resorts. :)

This is a question partly to people who did the FD in 2008, and partly to everyone else. What were the dates of 08s FD? and I read somewhere, maybe here, that the 2008 FD was modified to only cover the dinner, and not the appetizer or dessert. Is that true? And if it is, do you think they will do that this year too? Thank you in advance!:goodvibes

The FD Plan that was offered was the same as the Basic Dining Plan.
1-Snack, 1-CS Meal (includes Drink, entree' and Dessert)and 1-TS Meal per Night of stay.
On the Basic Dining Plan-TS Meal include Drink (non-alcoholic drink, Entree' and Dessert (tip not included).
In 2007 the Basic Dining Plan included the appetizer, dessert and tip but now
it only includes the Dessert. We just have to wait and see if Disney will offer FD to Everyone this year.
Keep checking back for all of the rumors come end of March. Last Year Rumors started around 1st of March
with confermation around the 1st of April. Last year FD was from Last DAy of Aug. to end of Sept. During Peak
Hurricane Season. We've Done FD for 2 years and will be there this coming year also.
