I'm a big fan of Wait til the deal comes out to book. As it has been stated before you are not guaranteeing the resort you desire if you book before a deal comes out. You may have to change things. I also think that people who book ahead only to change to FD if it comes out, are lowering the inventory if FD available to all of us.

I agree. I am just moving foward with our plans to go to Universal. However I am making daily reservations with Disney just in case they do offer Free Dining! If they offer the FD then we will already have all of our reservations made, except for CRT since you have to prepay for that one. So we will be waiting too. It is hard...especially since we know the fall offer was out last year before now.

I called yesteday and they told me to check for fall promotions the last week of April. Like I said before, it's probably just speculation, because i truly believe the CMs don't know anything.

WHY WONT THE DEALS JUST COME OUT??? I am soooo anxious to go and waiting for the deals!!! Do you think it would be smart to just book my trip now and wait till the offer comes out and change it? I have never had to book a trip on my own until this year so I am trying to weigh all the options!!

Well remember what Knox said. Booking now won't help you with a promo. It doesn't guarantee you a promo room.

If I have to change resorts I will for a good discount. I can't change my dates. I would had rather gone in October, but the rest of the crew needed to go in September.

Any discount is good (well, I don't like the kids play and eat free). But, I would take a good resort discount, 4/3 or FD.

Hi I have a free dining scenaro, maybe some of you can help me. OK so When (thats right not IF but WHEN) is announced, If i book POP century for September, would I be able to upgrade in August? The reason Im saying this is because my mom is going with us(2 rooms) and she is getting a bonus from her work in august, she offered to upgrade us all to a mod but wont know for sure about the money until August. Would that be too late to upgrade? Would I loose my free dining?

I am going to say no...because you have to book by a certain date and they only allow so many rooms at each resort for the promo. In the past you needed to book by the begining of June...who knows for this year. Unless they extend the deal for the September date you won't be able to upgrade in Aug.

Can I say something here? I don't think you have anything to be sorry for. You know the dates you are going and you can't be flexible. You're within 6 months of your vacation time and there's absolutely nothing wrong with booking to guarantee you at least have a resort and can make the dining reservations you want! You also know that you may not get any kind of discount and could end up paying full price. But it's your vacation so do what you want (and can afford)!

Some of us get so caught up in this code-watching stuff that we can easily forget what's important - going to Disney with your family/friends and having the best vacation you can afford - whatever that may be - disount or not.

If there were still FD rooms available when the promo closed, then yes you can switch. If not, then no. We had a very similar situation and were able to bump up weeks before our trip and still keep the promo. I had a quick trip with my kids booked to go and meet up with a friend from college and her kids. We were booked at a value and my kids were disappointed not to be at a resort with a waterslide. I got an unexpected surprise in that I was given a raise at work and they made it retroactive back to the start of a big project I had been working on. That gave me a nice chunk all at once and after talking to my friend and finding out it would work for her too, we upgraded to a mod to surprise the kids. The promo we had booked with was closed and had been for a while but we were still able to upgrade without a problem and still keep the promo. Our first choice had been CSR but we couldn't get the promo there. Only at POR or POFQ. We took POFQ. One call to the TA and within half an hour I had an updated confirmation in hand!

Bottom line, I wouldn't COUNT on being able to upgrade but I would definitely call and ask!

Same here. I've got everything done (time off work, airline tickets, etc.) but I haven't booked with Disney yet. I'm waiting for a good fall discount offer.

I live in NC and I hear that they expect an active Hurricane season just about every year. I wonder how they predict that?

Normally (my experience) if you want the discount, sometimes you have to upgrade.

Sorry but this is false.

Rooms for promos are completely different room inventory from what you could book today.

Promo room inventory is set based on the bookings at a given resort before the promo.

SO.. by booking now.. you actually decrease the exact room type and resort rooms for the promo ... slightly.

What all that mumbo jumbo means... is that just because I have a lagoon view booked at Poly for September dates does not necessarily mean I can switch that exact room/category/dates to whatever fall promo comes out.

If you can switch your reservation later - you would have had just as much luck booking a completely new reservation later.

And if you could not book a new reservation later - you would have no luck switching your reservation later.

Long story short..

"Booking now guarantees you absolutely nothing in regards to the fall promo except your ADR's and then only if you don't end up changing your dates later too.. in which case you'd have to switch your ADRs too.."

Why is Disney waiting so late ? The info from the first post in this thread appears to be accurate - Disney is more concerned about May right now.. and trying to increase the 'nearer' bookings ...

At least that's what I'm hear from several different sources.

PP are correct...you MIGHT be able to, but it is just as likely that you couldn't. If the promo is still going, you certainly could if there are rooms open, but as PP said, you will be restricted to what is available. Make sure your original booking is something you can be satisfied with either way.

At least it's coming (hopefully!) It's already April 12...what's 2-3 more weeks when we've already suffered this long!

I'm already booked because we are going either way, but would love ANY sort of discount to knock down the cost a bit...free dining or otherwise!
