I think it sucks that Disney charges adult prices once a child hits 10 years. I would think 13 (as the teenage) years would be more appropriate if they can't wait to hit people with extra charges for kids.

Same here...we are doing a split stay with Disney and Universal this time around, and I am really hoping for a room-only discount (we are using our GAD tickets for one day at AK, DS' pick). The next time we plan to go (unless I do bring DS for a birthday weekend surprise trip this winter, but that's a BIG IF) will be around DD's fourth birthday in October '12...we would be able to catch MNSSHP and get in that one last visit before DS turns 10 in December of that year. Boo to that "Disney adult at age 10" thing!

Did you really just wish a lame promotion on us? That is just absolutely wrong.

no, I swear I didn't! :thumbsup2

I already have my tickets for July, so I would be disappointed with an upgrade of tickets.

I had to reread emmabelle's post several times as well thinking exactly what you did. It finally hit me that she likely has a typo in there. I'm guessing it should read: "I hope for those who need the discount, that it's not something lame, like a free upgrade to hopper and water parks on your tickets." Isn't it amazing the difference a single character can make? I know I'm guilty of innocent typos myself and I read her as a nice person so I really do suspect it was an innocent typo.

yup that's what happened.

From Disney web site. 7 nights at Coronado Springs with 7 days of park hoppers and 7 days of regular dining plan - $2435 (rounded up). A savings of 42.8%, as stated by a previous poster, equals $1042 (rounded up). $2435 (original price) minus $1042 (savings) equals $1493. Same plan without 4/3 deal but with free dining is $1847.

No brainer as to which deal I want!!!!!!

Thanks for the info! I'm a "gut"guy also, and I think Disney will be making a HUGE mistake by not offering FD!:sad2: If you are going to wean people from discounts(especially FD),It needs to be done swiftly-you can't just leave people hanging and waiting for a discount that is not going to materialize;that is why I STILL think FD is going to happen!;) We were not going to visit this year-that's why we did'nt book bounce-back in Sept.09',but then,as usual, the prospect of FD,and the saving of MAJOR bucks that it brings,we decided we wanted in again this Sept. If FD is offered we might visit this year-if not NO WAY! We'll just wait until Fantasy Land update is finished, and then come back,FD or not!!!!:goodvibes

I think she meant "that it's not something lame" instead of what was written "that it's now something lame". Simple typo.

I went back and fixed it! I would really be a jerk if I was hoping that it would be something crappy. :rotfl:

My typing skills aren't always what they should be.

I was wondering how it all worked out. (4/3 vs free dining)

Thank you.

Just to recap.. 4/3 did not include dining in the past. If you wanted DDP you paid for length of stay.

4/3 including dining??? you really wish far... Previous 4/3 was stay and tickets - no dining. You had to pay for the 7 days of the dining plan...

4/3, % off or FD - the savings depends on length of stay, season, resort, party size, and party composition (ie adults/juniors/children).

In general, %off and 4/3 bring bigger savings for those staying in deluxe properties, however, if the party is adults and juniors, dining might bring bigger discounts, specially on less than 7 days stay, or during value season.

FD is a no brainer for folks staying on value resorts... Those staying on mods, it's a tossup.

I don't see Disney doing the kids free...that would mean parents have to take there kids out of school and I don't see a whole lot of that happening...even though we do...I think it would cause a lot of backlash for them.

I do think that a lot of people may change to US/IOA during the 4thQuater...they probably will book after summer thinking that there will be less people in the park 'cause kids will be in school...at least I look at it that way...No matter when you go to US for WWOHP it will be crowded, it should be AMAZING!...I can't wait to go but I think my kids are a little to young for a lot of rides and they are not big on some thrill rides...Oldest(6) LOVES them and middle(4) is unsure...baby(9months) obviously NOT into them:rotfl:

Staying off site wouldn't work for us...rental car, parking$$$$, tickets, food...it all adds up. we would go for less time an drevamp our ADR's a bit.
I still think they will offer FD/something better than they have offered...it is HURRICANE season:scared1::rotfl:
BTW...Hurricane season is expected to be more active than past years...just something to think about

Disney would be a fool not to have a popular promotion during their slowest and last Quarter...people who have the packages tend to spend more money in the parks because mostly everything(minus tips) is already paid for!

It doesn't work that way. The hopper option would be full price. The way they did the 4/3 discount last time (the first time they did it with different days at different prices) I believe was to give you the 3 cheapest days free (it certainly wasn't a percentage; the person who listed the amount was saying an average if all days are the same price like they are for deluxe resorts). IF the deal is what some of us are joking around with (and definitely not expecting in any way though we sure are hoping) then for many it will be better than free dining but not AS good as you've calculated here.

My family is kind of lucky - we can benefit from almost every discount. If it's Kids Eat and Play, we'll have an 8 YO and a 4 YO when we go - it ends up being a $51 difference between that an free dining for 7 nights (not in our favor).

I'd love to see 4/3 with FD if you stay 7 or more nights, but I'm not holding my breath (that would save my family $1500!).

Disney can rattle their sabers all they want about eliminating this and that, but it all comes down to profit and margins on that realized profit.

Two items are still of influence one heavily and one a threat to be dealt with..

The first is simply the economy - no matter what all the banks and politicians in any country say, we are not even close to be even getting on the road to recovery. Watch the world markets, look at what the European union just told Greece and Portugal - and don't have any delusion that and other issues will not reverberate to other countries. Disney depends on foreign tourism just as much as domestic, if their is no disposable income, then no-one comes. Disney and their profits go away. It is simply unwise to borrow your vacations any more. So to get folks to come you have to offer something. Lets face it is is better to offer 40% off rooms and or free dining and have them full, in the hopes that once you are their you will open your wallets. Rather then have the rooms empty because they stuck to the outdated notion that people will come no matter what.

The second thing they have to deal with is the Harry Potter opening. Yes, most folks are not going to go away from Disney for just one attraction, but lets say to really experience Harry Potter (and the rest of Universal) it now takes 3 maybe 4 days..The average vacation is 7...well, that is 3 days of no profits to Disney isn't it? How do you deal with that? Right now there is enough frenzy - wait until both movies hit the theaters this year and early next...then watch...

Most of the CM's are pretty closed up about what Disney thinks - maybe they are not being told - who know's...but in a personal opinion (open to flaming) I think it is financial suicide for Disney not to offer some crumbs to the public this year

Yes, but the 4/3 deal including dining was one of the speculated deals presented by the moderator.

Sorry I missed that page. :)

4/3 with dining would certainly make me happy.:goodvibes
I think all this waiting is going to kill me:rotfl:
