I thought I would compare a 4-night/5-day Free Dining package at Disney World to my 4-night cruise I currently have booked on the Wish for September 21st-25th, and here are the results.

September 21st-25th
4 Adults- Free Dining

Port Orleans-French Quarter
Standard view room
4-day Park Hopper tickets
$4,325

Animal Kingdom Lodge
Resort view room
4-day Park Hopper tickets
$5,620

Disney Wish Cruise
4 Adults
5C stateroom
$3,650- (after $250 included OBC)

Yeah we did the same thing when this "deal" came out... compared it to a cruise we are already doing and to just standard discounted rooms.

Free dining at Disney no longer interests me. Too much work with all the planning that is required now for a proper Disney vacation. At least for me.
Those Disney World prices are insane and that is not even all three meals a day. I will most likely be renting points from now on when we plan a stay there.

And the food isn't so great, plus when free dining is offered on such a large scale, lesser quality food is sourced to keep up profit margins.

They have raised the resort room prices so high that a 20-30% discount is not knocking a big enough dent in people's budgets. And they are now having to hand out deals on DCL like candy on Halloween night. At least with DCL you would get your breakfast included as well.

That was an interesting comparison you did!

I do miss the early days when the Dining Plan first came out... those were some very special trips for our young family.

But it changed and in just a few years, wasn't worth our considering it anymore. Free Dining on FL Discount room rates and paper Fast Passes that almost no one used. Great times.

Yes, wonderful and magical memories.

Yes, it is pretty crazy. We just went in early Feb for first time in about 10 years - looked at the hotel pricing and were blown away. We ended up renting points and it was probably half the cost; as well as being a much better fit for our family getting a 1bdr suite.

We'll probably be sticking to cruises when we come to Florida with a WDW visit every once in awhile.
