that discount seems to be a great savings and a ton of fun!!!! i hope some day i could land that deal!

We've been lucky enough to get it three years in a row - maybe you'll be able to get it next year!

It really does help for our family of 9. Food for seven kids is expensive!

If you only have 2 people in a room and are staying at a more pricey resort, it may not be as good a value.

We're excited for 11 nights worth of free food.

It's fine so long as you dont have a problem planning where you want to eat 6 months in advance. OR taking your chances on trying to find something when down there, which if you've read can be VERY hard sometimes..

Even though there are only two of us, it is a big money saver. We don't mind making ADR's early...I'm a planner and have each day of our trip planned out (what park we are going to spend the day at, where we're going to eat, when and/or if we are taking a break to go back to the hotel for a swim (or me a massage), etc. We attempt to try a couple of new restaurants every year, but then we always manage to go back to our favorites as well.

It's great! We had it last year for 9 days with only 3 ADR's, but we winged it the rest of the time and loved it. The #1 suggestion is to not let it become a burden.

It is a fabulous deal... it has sucked me in for three years straight, but oddly enough, this year I called and switched to the other discount rate that came out just after free dining and it was even cheaper after the dining plan was added on!!!

i agree the sit down service is great... but the free lunch and small snacks during the day is very nice also. i could see myself spending $50-60 on just lunch and snacks during the day for the family of 4. i hope i am over estimating!!! oh maybe next year for the holy grail of discounts(free dining)!

OR with planning your trip during hurricane season, because that's when it's offered.

Wouldn't you make ADRs anyway even if you weren't on the dining plan? I see this written a lot and I can't make any sense of it, I would think that you'd need ADRs whether you are on the plan or not...

We stayed at CSR in March/April & paid for the dining plan & I thought it was really worth the price. We are going on 9/12 & staying at AKL with free dining! We weren't planning on going in Sept but the free dining came out & I couldn't resist. We are staying at AKL b/c I felt that since we would be saving so much on food that I could splurge on our hotel. Keep in mind that we weren't going until I heard about free dining- in actuality the free dining is costing me a bundle since we weren't planning on going back until next year.

Yep, Im kicking myself for not booking it earlier this year. Ah well, ya live and learn =)

During peak times and the periods where the free dining plan is offered, ANYONE who wants table service at WDW needs to make ADRS. If you want popular restaurants (Le Cellier is often completely booked months ahead) you need to make ADRs. If you want peak mealtimes, it's probably wise to make ADRs.

Thats the only drawback for us. To me, vacation is about getting away from planning, making reseverations and watching the clock. :headache:

My exact thoughts along with nothing is free in the business world. The cost are covered and could inspire cost increases somewhere within the resort system depending on their financial structure.

I think free dining would be really cool IF is weren't offered only during the hotest, most humid, time of the year. I could never go in Aug or Sept

That is the exact reason that it IS offered during that time. There would be no reason for Disney to make such an offer during a more desired time period. I could not talk DH into taking that offer this year (we spent a TON on travel during 2006) so I am really counting on it being offered next year (the last week of August is an ideal time for us to go).

I wonder this as well. We buy the dining plan when visiting other times of the year, and STILL make sit down reservations 4-6 months out. Not quite sure of why you see those statements either.
