Free Dining question

Hi, Its been a while and I need a Disney Fix! I'm thinking of visiting Disney August 31st until Sept 8th. I know that the free dining offer starts on Sept 2nd. Am I correct to say that meals on the 31st and the 1st are not covered? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes but just confirming.

You are correct. I believe that free dining has to be in effect when you begin your reservation in order to get this 'discount'. So you would have to do a split stay- a room only reservation for the first 2 days and then a free dining vacation package for the remainder of your stay. When you make these reservations, do it by phone and ask that the reservations be linked. Hopefully you won't have to change rooms, even though you will have to check in twice.
