Free Dining on DVC Point Stays?

If I'm staying at Disney during Free Dining and I'm using DVC points for my stay at one of the DVC properties, can I take advantage of Free Dining? I always thought you had to buy a Package to qualify for Free Dining.

Sorry, no free dining on DVC point stays. You can only get free dining with a full price room plus tickets (at least a 2-day base ticket per person) package reservation through CRO. No other type of reservation is eligible.

Note that "free dining" is really just a resort + ticket + dining plan package discount. DVC members get a different type of discount for going in off-peak season: lower points costs for their stay (plus any other DVC benefits and discounts).
