Free Dining and Bounceback

I know there are a few DISers who have booked through the US during the free dining and taken advantage of the bounceback. Just curious how you get "into" getting the bounceback offers. Was it offered to UK guests on free dining, or just those who had booked through the US website during free dining?

Basically, I made up my mind last year that I am going to do a DIY. I figured since we go in October during free dining, if the opportunity is there, I will probably just book through the US by phone while there (that will settle the DIY decision then - personal challenge I have set for myself!).I would love any info from anyone who has done this.

Also, if I decide not to travel during FD, is it better to do it over the phone, are the US online deals cheaper (i.e. do you get an online discount on their site)?

The bounceback is offered to anyone staying in a Disney resort, it doesn't matter who you booked with or whether you booked a package or room only. The bounceback has to be booked while you are staying at the resort and you pay a $200 deposit initially, then standard Disney US package rules apply.

Thank you Swift! That is what I needed to know. Just looking at all possible options for next year and obviously to consider BB, have to decide before we get there

Would it matter if you booked using AP rates for the first trip? Would you still be able to get bounceback for the second trip?

I don't see why it should make a difference. I am also looking at AP possibility for next year. Already booked this year's one, but since we are going on FD in October I am hoping that if US FD promotion is running when we check in on the 2nd (the bounceback goes to 2 Oct). Keeping all my options open and thinking of the US FD if I can get it there on bounceback as it may work out better for us since we want to try Pop next year and they seem to be offering FD on value resorts.
