Free Dining 2014 Discussion

Hi! I am a first time disney goer... booked my trp already with a travel agent but I would like to get the free dining promo if it becomes available. If I get the free dining (I am staying in a value resort) am I able to upgrade later on and pay the difference for the regular dining plan vs. Quick service?

Thanks!

We will be a family of 4! :) POR regular room is fine with us. Still debating on our second choice - Husband wants CBR, I'm not to keen on that one (never stayed there though, just by looking at it) .. and I'm thinking CSR.

Anyone want to recommend either? :rolleyes1

It was our first time last year and we really wanted POR last year not only because of the resort but we were a party of 5. Of course when FD was released we had to switch because of the availability (as everyone knows), so we ended up booking two rooms at CBR. Two rooms were still cheaper since there was 4 "Disney" adults. Our family loved CBR - the theming, rooms, pool and we never had any problems with the buses. We thought we'd have a problem with the double beds but had no problem plus the rooms seemed larger (we stayed one night at the RR at POR - just because I really wanted to stay at POR

We have not stayed at CSR, but have stayed at CBR twice (once regular, and once pirate rooms). We stayed in the pirate rooms in 2011 and my daughter loved it (she was 8). She could have spent the whole trip in the pool though. Its a lot of fun, and I like the zero entry. The whole resort was super relaxing and we liked being able to lay in a hammock by the lake or play in the sand. POR is still my favorite moderate, but I wouldnt hesitate to stay at CBR again. If you do, just request a room near the main building as it is big like POR and can be a good walk (though they do have an internal shuttle). Good luck!

I thought they won't guarantee rooms that connect... Will they if you are doing it bc you have a family of 5 and some are kids?

Though some CMs will say connecting rooms are guaranteed, they most definitely are not. They will do everything in their power to grant the request of connecting rooms though.

Oh crap, I think I did not pay the deposit with my disney visa. Do you think if there is FD I can just pay another $200 with the disney visa or must it be the initial deposit?

Sounds like there should be a page for all of us families of five.

Or what about us families of seven! Always have to get two rooms. Have looked at 2BR at deluxes, but Gee Whiz! We love us some Disney, but could build a house for the money I have spent there in the past let alone trying to stay at a 2BR :)

My family is going to WDW in September. My brother is unsure if he wants to go. He would be sharing a room with my parents. If FD becomes available and I put him on the reservation and he decides not to come will I be able to take him off the reservation without my parents losing their FD?

Following along for a hopeful (pixie dust) September trip!

I'd like to know this too...CBR or CSR?? Any news on refurb at CBR. Those full beds gotta go ;) !!!

Absolutely! Just be sure to do it before the 45 day mark (to avoid the $50 change fee).:goodvibes

We always choose 2 connecting rooms at a value (even over POR) when we have 5+ on our trip. We also request a king room connected to a double (just a request but we have been blessed to have always gotten it :goodvibes). It is hard for 5 people to be in one room with just 1 bathroom and for the little extra money we get 2 rooms with a connecting door and 2 bathrooms. We don't however upgrade the dining plan, we stick to the QS - that just works best for our family not to be on a schedule. :rotfl:

I have the King room request in my reservation too! I hope it works out - I'd like the extra floor space and kids having their 'own' room would be fun for them!

Free Dining plan......

So does the MB only allot for a certain number of QS for adults and children, or are they all lumped together as QS. If that is the case, then a child can order an adult menu item - assuming they are not standing in line next to you :thumbsup2.
Now, would Disney allow for adult food for an 8 year old during free dining - if you upgraded to adult tickets? Do you request this specifically or change your child's age in the computer? Would the Disney website find it odd that my son aged 3 years from our trip last year? :rolleyes1 What would be the price difference to change him to adult for a 7 night stay - assuming free dining package? :confused3

Lots of questions!!! Sorry and thanks :dance3:

Credits are lumped, but the system knows how many adults and children are on the plan. So if your account is listed as 2 adults and two kids, you cannot order 3 adult meals.

Yes, they allow you to upgrade during FD. They are happy to take your money, even if it is only around $20. :rotfl2:

Yes, I request it on my original reservation. If I book with a CM, they do it for me, if I book online, I call in and have it added. On one of my reservations, I request king room, connecting On the other reservation, I request connecting room with xxxxxxx(and I have them add my reservation #) And if you book one of the All Star resorts, the cost for the 2 rooms vs POR is only about $100-$150 difference, depending on your length of stay (unless you upgrade your dining plan). I am editing this post: I was just online, playing around with booking a room to get rates and on the last page when you go to check out, it actually now allows you to request a nearby room or connecting door! :thumbsup2 When you choose the button for connecting door, it asks for the name of the party in the connecting room and their check in date. Not sure when this started since our last trip was 2 years ago, I know it wasn't there then.:scratchin I have also read on the boards that when you do online check-in there are other options you can choose now also. Does anyone know what those would be? Would it be king room or a specific floor?

Thank you great information.

So he could still order off of the kids menu if he would like? How do I address his age? Change it in the computer or request he receive adult tickets/food?
:yay:

Is the total price difference only like $20? Seems like a great deal

We recently booked two rooms at Sports. The CM asked us if we wanted adjoining rooms. I was surprised to hear that because in the past we've always had to request it.

Adjoining means in close proximity (could be different building, but near each other, could be different floors in the same building). If you want connecting rooms, call back.
