Free Dining 2008 Watch

So w/ the so called "recession" what do people honestly think the odds are of free dining - I would just love to hear everyone's opinions or "gut" feelings. I would LOVE to spend Labor Day at WDW!!!

IMO They already did free dining 2 times for September 2008. There is also currently a huge discount on rooms for September. Doubt if much will be left ..... If bookings are up with these three things and people booking ahead for September hoping for free dining everything looks full, so why offer it. Even Disney Visa, with less than a month to go (early April offer) has a current special.......
If offered maybr moderate and up like England ...........

Could you tell me what huge discount you got for on your rooms?

Discount email codes along with this current bounce back promo which includes September which was in the past the free dining period....

Bounceback Discount Promotion

This offer is available ONLY to guests who are currently staying at one of the official Walt Disney World resorts, and could end at any time.

Using a special phone number provided on a flyer provided in some resort rooms, you can book a room for stays during selected 2008 low season dates (in January, February, March, April, August and September), at a Walt Disney World resort and receive a discount of 20% off rack rates at Value resorts; 30% off rack rates at Moderate and Deluxe resorts; or 40% off rack rates at DVC/Deluxe Villa resorts.

The specific dates reported so far include:

Moderate resorts, 30% off most nights 1/6/08-2/2/08; 2/24/08-3/1/08; 3/30/08-4/21/08; 8/10/08-9/27/08

Deluxe resorts, 30% off most nights 1/6/08-2/2/08; 2/24/08-3/1/08; 3/30/08-4/21/08; 8/10/08-9/27/08

DVC/Deluxe Villa resorts, 40% off for most Sunday-Thursday nights 1/6/08-2/2/08; most nights 2/24/08-2/28/08; 3/30/08-4/21/08; 8/10/08-9/27/08

If you don't get the offer on a flyer in your room, I recommend asking at the front desk. I've also seen reports that the resort TV channel was showing this offer.

Reservation for 2008 must be made before you check out to qualify, and there are no exceptions made. A deposit of one night's room and tax is required at time of reservation.

I haven't yet sifted through this thread but will the free dining (if offered) be available for AKL? I had it last year at CBR. My gf and I are staying 3 nights, getting the dining and doing 2 park days. Would we have to do 4 park days to qualify? TIA!!!

Well, I'm not giving up hope. They're showing the same signs as last year that they're going to offer the free DDP.

Haha, I remember last year and everyone was saying how free dining wasn't going to be offered but lo and behold, it was. So I'll just wait and see.

I am very upset about the bounceback thing. My family was there for 10 days during that period and we recieved no offer in our room as others said they had recieved. My parents were also there and they had something on their bed about it so they booked (assuming we did the same since it was our 3rd DDP ) and told us upon arriving home that they had done so. I immediately called reservations and tried to book, but they said I had to do it while I was there. I explained that I was just there a couple days ago (and that they could check their records) and did not recieve the offer. They again appologized and said there was nothing they could do now. I was then, and am still now, for the 1st time not pleased with Disneys customer service!

That was my thinking - I think they already have alot off bookings at the values from bounceback, and with all the people going ahead and booking and hoping for free dining to come along later, I think they will be full enough they don't feel the need to offer it. I think if it is offered it will be to fill up the moderates and deluxes.

Couldn't your parents just add a room to their existing reservation under the plan?

I have done the free dining twice, both times in September. It is well worth it, especially if you want to try out restaurants you normally wouldn't go to. I am hoping they continue to offer this. I am watching!

We were there last September and booked two rooms for this Septemeber for free dining. One package was for 4 people and 1 was for only 2 people.

Yesterday I called and dropped one person from one reservation and replaced him with someone else. On the reservation for 2 people, I added 2 more. I've already gotten my confirmation emails and checked to make sure that the changes didn't mess up my free dining.

I think it depends on the luck of the draw as far as who you get when they answer the phone. I would try it and if they told me no, I would just keep trying with a different person. Good luck!

I know that many on these boards are waiting anxiously for the announcement for free dining to the general pulic. Has anyone spoken to any CMs or heard any rumors about whether or not this is going to happen? I can't wait for April! We've taken advantage of free dining before and we LOVE IT! So, someone, give me hope!

The above post is being merged into the Free Dining Watch Thread for discussion. The thread is being watched by a number of posters who are awaiting a free dining offer for 2008.

I am as anxious as the rest to find out the answer to this question and am on the fence about what I think may happen. On the one hand, they have alot of offers for that time period that have already booked up rooms/packages, on the other, I am sure there aware that many have booked on the speculation that it will be offered and that if its not, those bookings will dissappear. Well see, let the countdown to Free Dining begin!

Just a question about the new rules for the 2008 dining plan. Appetizer is not included and now you have to pay gratuity??? What is the advantage?? Has anyone used it thus far this year??

Well the food itself would still be free. Main course, drink and dessert at no cost is plenty fine with me!

I was referring to the current dining plan not the free offer. I believe they reduced the daily cost per person by $1 and added gratuity and took away the appetizer. Am I correct? Just curious who has used it this year and do you still feel like it is a value?

You are correct about the 2008 structure of the basic Disney Dining Plan. Gratuities and appetizers (for adult TS meals) are no longer included.

This thread is for the anticipation of the possible Free Dining offer, it isn't intended for discussion of the dining plan itself. If you post a new thread on the Dining Plan board, you will probably find the information you're asking for.
