Free Dining 2008 Watch

I agree with the last post- I think everyone is stressing a little too much! There will be some kind of offer- even if it's not free dining....We are going regardless because we like the low crowds in September- free dining is just icing on the cake:cool1:

Also, everyone FWIW I want you to know I booked a free dining trip last year on June 26th!!!
That's more than 2 months after it was announced. So those that are worried about missing the booking on the very first day...calm down! If they announce it you will get it no problem (you may have to be flexible with your resort choice)!
Godd luck everyone!

In 2006 I booked our package with free dining several weeks after it was announced and had no problems with dates or resorts. :) I think sometimes the more we know the more we stress out. The DIS should come with a disclaimer ;)

Never underestimate the number of people here on the boards and other websites. I think it's more than a tiny percentage. Especially those that go during the off season.

Yes, probably true, still a small percentage though, I think, compared to all the thousands of people who go to disney everyday of the year. So many people (if not ALL) the people I know personally who go to Disney pay way too much because they have never heard of the disboards..or any money-saving websites for Disney and are totally oblivious to codes, discounts, promos, etc.

And remember all those ressies will be canceled probably within the first few days after its announced..I know mine will be if I have to cancel. I'll do it the first day it comes out. Then all those rooms will be available for someone else who calls that day for a ressie.

I have heard of quite a few people who were able to get a free dining ressie WEEKS after the promo starts. Thats because A) alot of people cancel B) I suspicion Disney releases the rooms in "groups" not all at once.
I may be wrong about that but I have wondered.

Just as Disney KNOWS ALOT of people reserve early in anticipation of free dining..they also know that alot of those ressies will be canceled if its not offered. Therefore, those rooms would be empty in Sept, during hurricane season if they didn't offer the free dining. Why would they do that? They are smarter than that. It is taken into consideration, I am sure.

Anyway, not trying to argue, just stating my opinion of why I think its not wrong or damaging to go ahead and book the package.

I hope those dates are going to be accurate. The first year we went we were able to get the dining plan during the food and wine festival, which just makes Epcot so much fun. It looks like they have shrunk back the dates each year since then. Howevere it looks like if the above dates are true, then it will overlap for the first 2 days of the Food&Wine. So my question is, since a plan I am formulating is to overlap the free dining with the 2 days it looks available during the Food and wine. let’s say I planned a 7 night vaca, with 5 of it being on the meal plan, 23rd through the 29th. I imagine I will only get the free dining until the 27th, (since I read they are compartmentalizing each day now instead of in the past where you could get the same rate on your first day, locked in for your whole stay, same I miagine with dining plan?) If I get the 5 free days worth of meal tickets, do I have to use them all before the 28th? Or since I will have them could I use them any day? Not sure if the free ones would exprire when the offer does.

While Disney has changed the pricing based on the nightly cost of the room, they have not done that with the discounts, so as long as you check in by the last day it is offered, you will get the discount for your entire stay. Since the dining plan is based on the number of nights you stay, there is no way for Disney to break up the dining plan, and only give it to you for a portion of your stay. If you are staying 7 nights, you will get 7 nights worth of dining plan. Please do not let the end date of the promotion make any difference in your planning, as long as you check in on that date or before, you will be fine for your entire stay.

Hope springs eternal.

:dance3: :woohoo:  :worship:

I'm not sure about other discounts but we have a currently have a 40% off pin code discount and they would not let us extend it beyond the expiration date of the code even if we checked in before it. I am hoping with everyone else that free dining will not work that way but I'm not holding my breath.

I totally agree that booking early will have no effect on a Dining Promotion if it's going to be offered. Can you imagine the panic by Disney brass if a good percentage of people cancel their Sept trips because of a promo they didn't offer? They have thought this far ahead. Plus considering the CM I spoke with yesterday stated it WAS going to be offered and "very soon" has me thinking positive.

We have our ressies all set, 9/17-9/27. We are booked at a moderate I was able to get the 40% off discount. I have booked all our dining ressies, we will go regardless if the free dining is offered. I have done the math and I will save about $80.00 if the Free DDP plan is offered (assuming they wont give us the 40% off discount). If it is not offered we will still get the dining for the simple fact we got such a good discount it almost is like Free dining.

My question I have the Disney Visa so if offered I may see the offer before the general public, if I wanted to take advantage of the offer would I have to re-book using by Disney card? I didn't use it initially. And if so since I booked 2 rooms will I be able to use the code for both rooms. Also will I have to re-do all our dining ressies at that point?

So much planning and then the vacation flies by way too fast!:confused3 :surfweb:

WOW!! Where did you find a 40% discount?? that's super great. I don't know about the cc stuff though.

"Free dining looking more likely - Disney Visa offer to start on April 7
All signs continue to point to Disney's free dining offer beginning to the general public on April 10. We expect Disney Visa cardholders to get their free dining offer a few days earlier, on April 7. "

They've gotten it right before.

Not having a Disney Visa, I can't answer all those ? but I know you have to at least pay the deposit on the card to get it a couple days earlier.... I don't see why you couldn't use it on both rooms.... and the ONLY reason you would have to change dining ressies is if you had to change your dates!(they do not have to be tied to your room ressies)

Just got off the phone with a CM...I was calling to ask if there was any pin codes attached to my name...she said there was nothing right now, but she strongly suggested I call back next week! I know that CM's are often misinformed and sometimes give out bad information...but this CM seemed VERY excited! Here's to hoping she is correct...pixiedust:

Last night someone posted that they had just spoken with a CM and that had told her Free Dining was available for Disney Visa holders. Everyone thought it was an April Fools' prank and it was too late to call and find out. Does anyone know if this is for real?

I have not received an email from Disney Visa as of this morning. :confused3

Where do we find the info for free dining? Do they send emails to Disney Visa card holders?? What's the deal??

Yes. I am a Disney VISA holder, and the past 2 years I have received the offer for FDDP through e-mail first.

I haven't received anything yet, and someone from that particular thread posted this morning that they called and the CM told them no, it hasn't been offered to DisVISA members "yet."

Sadly, this isn't true. I just spoke with a CM and she laughed (kindly) and said it had to have been an April Fool's Day joke as free dining was not available at this time.

Darn!

My travel agent dropped me an email just last night and she said the current "rumor" is free dining will be available on 4-7-08 for disney visa holders and 4-10-08 for the public. I'm really hoping its true!!

My aunt said she was reading last night that a cast member posted that the free dining will end Sept. 20th, I really hope thats not true, I am checking in on the 26th.......I guess we will have to wait and see
