FWIW, with a diagnosis of diabetes, many insurance companies provide a free meter. For instance, we have Aetna, and when we called the Multicare healthcare place about the classes (nutrition) they told DH to swing by and choose a meter.

The key is, however, to know how much the strips will be before choosing the meter, because that's where they get ya forever and ever...

ETA: I have not been diagnosed with diabetes, but had reactive hypoglycemia when I was PG and I am feeling the same symptoms now, so want to test myself before I shell out $$$$ for testing at the doctor office.

There is a questionaire so fill it out like you have diabetes. You will qualify. Meter companies just want to get thier meter in your hands so you buy thier strips. The meter at this site comes with 10 strips. A word of warning.. it takes a while to get these free meters. You may want to consider ebay.. you can buy them for under $20 there and its quicker.

check the CVS and other drug store ads they ofter have cheap or free meters with extra bucks. also i have seen coupons in the sunday paper for free meters or so much off. you may be able to find a coupon online. good luck

I tried that link previously and even put that I have diabetes and it said I didn't qualify. I'm sure I'll get spammed to death though! LOL

Heah summer, hope you are doing ok and that things work out for you. Have you checked into Healthy NY? I am looking into this for ds22 because he will no longer be on dh insurance since he graduates college on June lst. I am deciding wether to get the drug option or not. He cant get the free plan because they said he lives in our home, so we are doing the monthly one. I have to check the different plans out.

When my meter broke, I called the 1-800 number on it and asked them for a new free meter. They sent me one. Not sure if that always works, but guess they realized if they didn't supply the meter, I wouldn't need to buy their strips.

I have looked into it, but it's pretty pricey for being a "discounted" program!

What age does VBS start at your church? I have to get working on my Summer calendar and figure out what to do everyday since I'll probably switch my hours to evenings for the Summer
