I know I've read about the Amazon Mom membership here before, but I disregarded it because the plan (which basically gives you a free Amazon Prime membership) is set up for mothers of babies and toddlers.

I was going to do the free Amazon Prime one month membership, but when I tried to sign up, it wasn't working. I called customer service to find out why it wasn't working since it had been more than 13 months since I last had a free Amazon Prime trial membership. The customer service rep suggested that I just sign up for the Amazon Mom membership. He said DH could sign up too (and so could my mom for that matter).

I asked, "Isn't this just for new moms and moms of toddlers?"

He said no. Any mom, dad or grandparent can sign up, no matter the age of the children (our kids are ages 12 and 15). He said the benefits for mothers of younger kids would not pertain to us. For example, after the 3 month free membership, if I were to order $25 or more in the mom's store (say I ordered a box of diapers), then I'd get another month free for each month that I spent $25.00 in the mom's store.

So while I won't get that benefit of extending the free membership since I won't be shopping for babies or toddlers in the mom's store, I can still benefit from the 3 month free membership. So DH and I both signed up. After that expires we will do a family Amazon Prime membership. Now if I need only one thing from Amazon, I won't feel like I have to spend $25 to get the super saver free shipping.

Just thought I'd pass that info on because I know many people on here could benefit from the free 3 months, and they would not be breaking any rules or lying about the ages of their children. It's all legit! :thumbsup2

Here's what it says in the FAQ:

What is the maximum age of my child for me to be eligible?

• Amazon Mom is open to anyone. If your kids are older than toddlers, you can still join the program; you just may not enjoy some of the benefits that are targeted at younger children.

I have an 8 yr old and 22 year old. Have a new nephew and Godchild. I have Amazon mom, been several months now . LOVE LOVE LOVE it ! I shop on Amazon quite a bit and been able to extend membership. While I don't buy diapers and wipes of course, I still am able to get the free two day shipping and because I shop in toy department for the new kiddos I have gotten to extend the membership for free. If someone is a big Amazon shopper, I say join!!

I'm a Grandma and did this awhile back..so far I've bought enough stuff to get it extended to October...really love having it and my just pay for it when it runs out free.

If you have a .edu email address you can get it for one year for free too.....just an FYI

I have an .edu address because I'm a teacher and checked on this but was told it was only for students and I'd have to lie on the form -- didn't want to do that.

ps..it isn't just baby stuff that can extend you..I just bought a couple remote helicopter toys for gifts and that extended me a month also.

Just be aware if you are planning to use the subscribe and save feature (say for diapers, like I did) you will not have free two day shipping even if you have prime and are a mom's member. It will be free standard shipping. They just changed that policy sometime during the spring. I was disappointed that I wasn't informed but they made it right and gave me free two day shipping one last time on the diapers I ordered. Now I'll just order a little earlier.

Do they notify you when they extend it the extra month or do you have to check somewhere on your account?

You have to check your account , it is under prime amazon account info I think. Very easy to find , which reminds me I need to check mine : ).

They send an email each time it is extended. I signed up in February and currently have it extended to October.

Also since you can only extend for up to 1 year, when my extensions end, I will start the program under DH and we will be able to continue for another year!
