Freaking Out! DD sick, leaving Sat am

We see this frequently this time of the year in the ER. Treatment is symptomatic Tylenol for fever. (our pediatricians are no longer recommending Motrin due to the increased incidence of gastrointestinal bleeding in children) We also discharge parents with the "Magic Mouthwash" solution our is 1/3 Benadryl, 1/3 Mylanta, and 1/3 viscous lidocaine. With smaller children their mouth can be wabbed with a Qtip for bigger kids they can gargle and spit. (This solution is not to be swallowed)

OT...but I am clueless!

Alright, an anti-histimine, a stomach med and a numbing agent...WHY? I really am cuious as to the overall purpose. Thanks!!!

Take down inflammation, coat the ulcers and kill the pain. It's quite clever.

Yes, that is what I had to give my DD for it. The doctor gave me a piece of paper listing the ingredients and amounts. I had to mix them and swab them in DD's mouth with a qtip.
BTW, my doctor prescribed a mixture like this for me, as an adult, when I had strep throat. It was, however, minus the numbing agent I know. It was a mixture of something like Benedryl and Mylanta. The RX mixed it for me, though, so I don't know the amount. The doctor gave it as a prescription.

Keep in mind that this disease passes from person to person from saliva -- drinking from one another, sharing food/candy, slobber, mouth kissing, etc. I got this from my dd when she was an infant. I had the habit of sticking her paci in my mouth to clean off "germs" from the floor, etc. Stopped that habit rather quickly after suffering with the worst sore throat I've ever had. My dd didn't run a fever or anything -- I took her to the doctor because she refused to eat/drink anything. He used a flashlight to show me her throat -- OUCH!!!

Thanks for the info Daryl. While I did get passed around a lot in the phone system, I was finally able to talk to Shirley in ticket services. She is going to exchange our tickets for another date while we're down there. I have to send tickets back and may get more in the mail, may not (they may keep at will call). But she said, that I do get to exchange them. :thumbsup2
She made a note in my ticket res. that stated that we were exchanging them. She assured me that even if they sell out, because of this note, I will get the tix! I am so thrilled. She did advise calling next week, just to check back. That's always a good idea anyway! =) I do plan on copying my original documents before resending them. Call me paranoid. =)

On the health front, dd19 months is much better today. Still a bit fussy, but I think she's tired and turning into a bit of a diva b/c things have been "her way" lately since she's been sick. My other two children did both go to bed with fevers and aches last night, but woke up in good spirits this morning and fever-free. In investigating coxsackie yet again, I saw that some children do just get fevers and aches. Let's hope that's the case for them. Those mouth sores seemed horribly painful for my youngest!

Thanks again for the many thoughts and prayers. I'll keep you guys posted with any new info. I appreciate all the advice, thoughts and well-wishes. I feel obligated to post an awesome trip report upon our return! =)

I'm gald to hear everything is turning out well. Hopefuly the worst is over. Have a great trip!!! :cheer2:

So glad to hear that everything is working out for you. At least they all got sick before you went instead of at DW. That would have been a bummer. :sad2:

Let us know when you get to go. Have fun at the MNSSHP.
