Just yesterday I was out on my porch, admiring my window boxes. They are all filled with snapdragons and dianthus in full bloom. There are four large pots too, with salvia and petunias.

Today, I see a shadow of something on my porch. Two squirrels are out there digging around and munching on plants! Of course, they caught me fresh out of a shower so I couldn't run out there to stop them. Best I could do was bang on the window and watch them scatter.

By the time I got out there I found one dianthus plant out of the dirt and hanging on the edge of the box. Bits of it were scattered about too. A snapdragon was almost out and two pots had holes in them.

I sprinkled cayenne pepper on everything. Hope that stops them!

Oh No! Margie - Are you gonna join the ranks of Deb and Mamu and get yourself "a piece" to teach these creatures not to mess with ya? ( see other squirrel thread )

So sorry about your dianthus....

Sorry to hear about the damage the little varmints caused, Margie. :(

I hope they get a nose-full of the pepper, and hot foot it out of your yard!

I've seen very few squirrels around here this season. I don't know why. Of course it only takes one to cause a lot of havoc.

I may not get "a piece" but maybe an air horn will do.

Today is quiet so far. Of course, living in a forested area with a tree next to my porch doesn't help. Yesterday I thought of that Geicko commercial with the squirrels who cause an accident then high five one another. It's like these creatures know you can't get to them at that moment. Working in teams is clever too.

Get a live trap and trap 'em!! It is such a wonderful feeling to be able to pick them up and take them to a new home-- far, far away!!

I started the summer being overrun by squirrels and chipmunks and now I am relaxing on my deck- varmit free! Of course it took about 25 car trips to get there.

Having a dog is a good way to keep the squirrels out of the yard too.

Tuli's right dogs love chasing squirrels. It's a game here with Ridley the Scottie losing. Critter Ridder works well but I guess it's too late for that.

Yes, I say the "S" word and Buster goes flying, I really have to be sure that both doors are wide opened before I give the signal. Sometimes it seems that he knows what I'm going to say.

We used some criter control scent for the chipmunks, but nothing has really worked. I told Tom that this morning that when I went out to feed the birds, there were many squirrels, bunnies, and chipmunks around the patio, I felt like St. Francis!

Bobbi:D

LOL,
I told Tom that this morning that when I went out to feed the birds, there were many squirrels, bunnies, and chipmunks around the patio, I felt like St. Francis!

Sometimes I feel like Snow White with all the bunnies, birds and deer following her around but I don't sing to them:crazy:

Have you ever seen a St. Francis of Assisi garden statue, Bobbi? :)

We've seen some nice ones at the garden centres, and DH has often mentioned buying one.

Maybe you should put one on your Christmas wish list! :)

:D
