FPs lasting longer than I expected?

I've been keeping an eye on my DL app lately to get a feel of how the FPs are being distributed. The last couple of weeks, I've been surprised that they're lasting much longer than I really expected, and with sooner return times. I'm looking right now, it's 1:20 p.m. on what I'd presume would be a busy summer weekend in high season. RSR has a 75 minute wait, yes, but there are still FPs being distributed, for 9-10 p.m.! I'm remembering when they'd be completely out by the first 2 hours of the day, I think it was just last year.

Indy, 40 min wait, FP return 2:45?! Star tours, 55 min. wait, but a 3:30 FP return, RSR is only a 15 min. wait, and FP return times are only 40 minutes away. Splash is a 60 min wait, but FP return times are only 3 p.m. Hyperspace Mountain, a more normal 85 min wait, FP return times still available, though, for 6:20 p.m.

The only one that seems to consistently be gone quickly, of course, is Soarin'.

This is making me feel pretty good about getting on whatever rides I want when we go.

It appears that surge pricing and AP block-outs are making for a very manageable park crowds this summer.

No way to know for sure, but I think it's bigger than that. I think it's broader economic pressure since they're having lower crowds at WDW as well.

Whatever the reason, the summer crowds have been low.

How long until they start planning for the lower capacity? That's what I want to know...

Also, does this mean the "off-season" will be brutal with short hours, low-capacity staff, and huge crowds; or are the lower crowds going to hold over?

The last hike for APs caused a number of my "We ALWAYS have them" friends to let go of that habit. It just was too much of a price boost all at once. I would not be surprised if that was a factor.

I How do you find the FP information? Thanks!
At this time of the night there are likely NO FPs left for the day. Usually you just click the name of an attraction and it will tell you the wait time and the FP distribution time.

Right now if you click on Thunder Mountain it will tell you that it has a 15 minute wait time and FP return time of 9:30 - 10:30

I downloaded the wrong app all this time! :rotfl2:. i just downloaded Disneyland app. How do you find the FP information? Thanks!
Tap on the map, all kinds of markers pop up, some with times on them. Tap on those, i.e. Hyperspace mountain, it says, Disneyland Park, 45 minute wait. If you tap on that right now, it will tell you that FastPass tickets are not available right now, i.e. they're sold out. However, interestingly, it's after 9 p.m., and Hyperspace is the ONLY FP ride in DL that doesn't still have FP left for today. All the rest are showing return times of 10-11, or even earlier.

CA right now is within an hour of closing, so no more FPs.

One other thing to note about FP. When I was there in Mid-May it was pretty busy but FP still seemed to be available later in the day or had return times close to the current time. I think this has a lot to do with the enforcement of the return time. I know it has been several years now but I do think it has impacted it.

This makes sense to me.

We were getting FP for RSR past the two hour mark the last time we had APs (Summer 2014-2015). I think they began to last longer after the ride was open for a few years, but they still go fast compared to some other rides.

I agree that finances are becoming an issue again for many families, and it will likely get worse before it gets better. Also, a LOT of people went in the last year for the 60th anniversary. And a LOT of people are saying they’ll go back when Star Wars opens. So it could be that many visitors have been and are waiting for the next big thing to draw them in.

My friends haven’t been in about three years, but when I shared the Star Wars news with them the husband said they’d wait to go back until it opened. And, Harry Potter just opened. I thought I read they were seeing good crowds this summer. I think Disney really should have started on something else “big” after Carsland opened. It opened in 2012 and it’s been a while since anything big other than entertainment has been added.

Longer-lasting FPs are all to the good, for those who know how to manage them. I am continually STUNNED to see people in 70-minute lines at RSR when there are still FPs available. Similarly those who get FPs for Screamin' when the standby line is only ten minutes.

Maybe they had gotten FPs for another ride (maybe even that one?) and couldn't get another one for 2 hours?

yes i have noticed that too. i have been using the app to see wait times on the weekends and to see how fast FP are going but they seem to be lasting quite some time. I checked mid afternoon and there was still FP for RSR.
