FPP booking with multiple reservations

Currently I have 2 reservations booked for December, 1 for room only and 1 for free dining. we are currently trying to decide what works best for our family since I got a really good room only discount and we might not eat as many times at the world since we will be doing Ice! as well as probably seaworld and/or Universal this trip. I was not going to make a decision until we got closer to the trip date but now I am a little nervous with having to book my FPP soon. Currently I have the free dining linked to my MDE with the room only through Orbitz but can I book my FPP with the free dining and switch the reservation to room only at a later date without losing my FPP? If not decision will have to come much sooner than thought but I want to make sure before we make it.

My understanding is you could lose them if you cancel before you are 30 days out. But I don't know if that is fear or actual truth

If you also link the Orbitz reservation to MDE, you won't lose FPs when canceling either one.

Any onsite reservation opens and maintains the 60-day booking window. As long as tickets are linked to MDE, you won't lose your FPs.
