In the (unpopular) defense of the IT team at Disney, I've actually met several technology executives who worked on the system and they are far smarter than I am. The task they are responsible may seem simple enough to the outsider, but when you dig into the seemingly impossible project they were designed, you realize just how impressive and difficult it was for them to achieve what was achieved. Even with over a billion dollars in overall spend.
And yes the system can be buggy and frustrating... and that's not in any way acceptable. I find it so annoying too. But I won't make any disparaging remarks about the people who built and continue to work on this gargantuan system. What they've done under the hood to connect everything across the world's most complex vacation destination is absolutely amazing. Every attraction, ice cream cart, resort room door, mobile app, bus, and more communicating to each other with a flood of coordination. Of course, when it works, they've done their job so well that nobody is surprised or even notices the magic because it's seamless. And of course, when it doesn't work, that's when people very much notice, and notice loudly.
I don't dismiss anyone's frustration (since I also hate laggy and buggy experiences). Just putting a little shout-out in support of the tired technology men and women who solve some of the world's most ambitious IT challenges.
