FP+ testing starts in Disneyland around August 2015

I'll be there this August. I was going to wait to purchase tickets at the gate. I wonder if I should do it sooner.

Absolutely stupid! The reason I'm coming to DL is because I don't want to plan every second of my vacation like they do at WDW. I want freedom. I want to walk in to the parks and then decide what we'll do. And here's another thing to think about: magic bands work (sort of) at WDW because tens of thousands can stay at Disney resorts in FL. In CA, there isn't that much space. So who get's the magic bands and who doesn't? Just people who stay at one of the three Disney hotels, or are good neighbor hotels included, or people who book packages..... What about AP holders. Do they get a magic band?

This simply won't work at DL. Furthermore, it alienates the locals even more. Don't mess up a good thing, DL execs. You add magic bands and I'll be taking my trips back to Orlando. Why stay in CA and put up with the same garbage when I can get two extra parks, water parks, and free dining?!?!

Something seems off about this to me. The original article does not include a source. Maybe this is true, but I'll wait to hear it from Disney before I believe it.

I mean, DLR doesn't yet have Magic Bands or wifi and is in the midst of what they expect to be a very crowded 60th anniversary summer. I find this "announcement," which lacks any details whatsoever, to be highly suspect.

maybe they will start in late August after the summer crowds? It does seem odd they don't wait until next year after the 60th is over.

A very perplexing move since it wasn't that long ago Tom Staggs was quoted as saying it would not be coming to DLR.

Looks like it is indeed "too big to fail".

The timing seems nothing if not strange with DL 60th starting tomorrow and D23 Expo coming in mid-August. /

I agree. I would have expected them to wait until September. I'm really interested to see how they do this. Hopefully we will have fewer kinks than WDW did with their rollout, but only time will tell

Agreed that the lack of park wide wi-fi seems to be pretty substantial missing component.

I would assume by test, they mean select hotel guests, maybe annual passholders, or just one park.
At this moment the Disneyland Resort doesn't have enough Fastpass attractions to signify the change. Unless it is drastically different than what is at WDW.

Hmmm going to have to keep my eye out for more info on this since we have a trip planned in August and IF this is true and does happen I will need to get educated on the process. I don't know enough about it so kinda hope it doesn't happen so I don't need to change how we approach our DL trip this year.

One of the first steps at WDW was to add FP to every attraction they could.

Regardless, I'm not sure how they solve the infrastructure problem of not having space to add FP return lines to many attractions. Unless they go FP only like the A/E meet.

You know I don't know enough about it either (probably going to WDW in June 2016 so I need to brush up on it quickly), but isn't it true you only get 3 fast passes per day via fast pass plus between all 4 parks at WDW, and you have to use those three before you're able to get any more.

just thinking what kind of impact that would have on park hopping, it almost discourages it really.

You get 3 in one park to start. You can then hop to another park and see what's left. But additional FPs are available one at a time at a kiosk in the park you want them FP in. Generally MK is the only park with quality choices left by then.

Hard to say how they would choose to roll it out at DLR.
